So Christmas has gone spectacularly to shit this year and we have had to cancel last minute die to being covid positive.

We have taken a rain check on Christmas dinner with DD1 so its just the three of us. DD2 doesnt like Turkey.

We bought the turkey before everything went to shit and now we just dont feel like it. We have a ham which we all prefer.

Its use by date is 26th, can we freeze it ? Theres nothing to say we can and its usually freeze on day of purchase so im guessing no.

The dog thinks we should cook it!

if you bought i fresh from a butchers of course you can freeze it

dementedpixie · 24/12/2020 12:25

If its within its date then yes you could. It could still be on the shelf and bought today.

As long as it hasn't previously been frozen it will be fine.

PlanDeRaccordement · 24/12/2020 12:27

Yes you can freeze it.

wowfudge · 24/12/2020 12:27

Of course you can unless the packaging states it's been previously frozen or not to freeze it. If it can't be frozen you can cook it, cool it and freeze it. Changing its state from raw to cooked means it can be refrozen.

You could also joint it before freezing so you don't have to use the whole bird at once when you do get round to it.

Mrsjayy · 24/12/2020 12:27

I don't know why they say freeze on day of purchase because you could have just bought it today Confused anyway yes you can freeze it fine.

TheoriginalLEM · 24/12/2020 12:28

Its a tesco crown, nothing on it to say suitable for home freezing so i think we might just cook it

wowfudge · 24/12/2020 12:28

I think they say that so you don't potentially let it go off then freeze it.

Brakebackcyclebot · 24/12/2020 12:28

Yes you can freeze it if you bought it fresh. If use by date is 26th it could still be on the shelf in the supermarket.

Mrsjayy · 24/12/2020 12:29

Personally I would cook it and slice it far easier to store in the freezer.

Brakebackcyclebot · 24/12/2020 12:29

Or you can cook it and then freeze it

TheoriginalLEM · 24/12/2020 12:29

MrsJay i always think the same and we do it a lot with other meat. Just paranoid about food poisoning.

I have done this, ours said can be frozen in the pack.

You could cook it and then eat it cold perhaps - hope you feel better soon. What bad luck to have it at Christmas Flowers

Mrsjayy · 24/12/2020 12:30

It's just the same as a fresh chicken though and you can freeze those.

TheoriginalLEM · 24/12/2020 12:31

So now im being quite dim, i can freeze it sliced after cooking? Then do i just reheat it once defrosted?

Just do what you normally do saves you fretting.

Yes you can.

With Turkey I either reheat in gravy or the DC like Turkey, cranberry stuffing sandwiches.
