Flooding, Has 2020 got any more punches to throw

Lying here listening to the rain, most roads near us are impassable. I need to pass at least one of them tomorrow to pick up Christmas dinner. Christmas already messed up with dd2 self isolating and dd1 stuck in tier 4.

There are rumours that some homes are already flooded and people are spending the night in the Local primary school.

Stay safe everyone and roll on 2021

I’m so sorry, OP. Are you in Northamptonshire?

billybagpuss · 23/12/2020 22:32

No SW, roads are closed all over the place, I guess at least the silver lining of dd self isolating is she wasn’t at work as getting home would have proved problematic.

Northamptonshire is rough currently. Our estate is flooding at the bottom. The estate over is being evacuated according to Facebook. Absolutely mental.

Hope it eases off where you are op

EduCated · 23/12/2020 22:35

It’s awful. We are in a flood area, though thankfully we personally are not at risk in anyway. The rain has been relentless today.

mineofuselessinformation · 23/12/2020 22:35

I know that in one part of Cambs people have had to leave their homes - poor buggers. Sad

PandemicPavolova · 23/12/2020 22:36

I am worried about the flooding as well. Not us or our home but homes that have to evacuate... In a pandemic. I hope people in danger of this are prepared.

billybagpuss · 23/12/2020 22:38

I’m Gloucesterhire, it has been relentless and trying to provide relief if people do get evacuated is going to be very challenging.

OP I’ll see your flooding (I’m on the edge of the Somerset Levels, so see quite a bit of it every year anyway!) and raise you snake-infested sea foam...

Wtfdidwedo · 23/12/2020 22:39

Some people in Wales have only just got back into their houses since February's floods and now roads are closed all over again. I'm hoping the people affected last time have some respite this time. What a shower of shite this year has been!

Weedsnseeds1 · 23/12/2020 22:42

SW here too. Just don't let your Mogwai get wet, that's all I'm saying...

Oh god I saw that, and I love the sea, I’d worry I’d get in not knowing about the snakes.

Hope you’re ok we get the same regional news channel and yours is always worse than ours, they were supposed to be doing quite a lot to ease flooding there has it made an impact?

That would just finish 2020 off with a bang. 😂

I've been keeping an eye as my Dad's down there, the video from Over farm was heartbreaking

Feel sorry for the people who are meant to be having Christmas dinner at the Over Toby Carvery Sad

Yes that’s not likely to go ahead, and then tier 3 from Saturday.

bettyshotspot · 23/12/2020 22:55

@Scrumble yes, that looked awful too :( Was it even forecast to be so bad?

Treeerex · 23/12/2020 22:56

Well this year we have had fires in Australia, storm ciara, there was a thing I saw about a swarm of locusts on BBC news.

I think the only thing we haven't had yet is Godzilla.

I managed to get in to my parents on the only road through to their village which was still open - it was the one they raised by about 6ft a couple of years ago. Fortunately it’s never flooded as far in as our house (although as kids we used to live it when we got cut off and couldn’t get to school!) but a lot of people round here do have a stockpile of sandbags and real trouble getting home insurance.

Feel sorry for everyone dealing with this on top of everything else...

billybagpuss · 23/12/2020 23:00

There were flood alerts but we weren’t expecting this. I walked the dog 2 minutes to the poo bin and when I got back I’ve been dryer getting out of a swimming pool.

High tide tomorrow and Friday will be the worst time though as the water runs down off the welsh hills.

It’s getting quieter, hopefully it will stop soon.

Scumble · 23/12/2020 23:00

I don't recall flood warnings being massively prominent on Gloucestershire Live (although flood stories are all over it today, along with Tier 3), but then I suppose they prefer to prioritise bizarre 'Praised for Packing Well In Aldi' stories... Grin

Chloemol · 23/12/2020 23:01

We are in Beds, it’s shit here as well

Yes I’m trying to get a better deal on home insurance at the mo, I actually went to a broker rather than just the meerkats, the cheapest she could find to include flood protection was in excess of £1000. So I think I’m just going to have to stay put.
