5yo Isolating, needs to burn some energy off

Hi DS age 5 has to isolate until Boxing Day. He's been OK so far but started to run and jump around the house. Obviously he's super excited for Christmas which is just adding to his hyperness. How can I get him to burn off some energy?

Make a little treasure hunt - get him running all over the house?

Find a PE with Joe Wicks on YouTube and do that together?

was also going to say Joe Wicks!

DS's football coach did INDOOR football training with them when they couldn't train together. Lots of really close vall control. Toe taps, jumping over the ball, what he calls penguin feet - basically keeping the ball between the inner part of your feet.
So, id say indoor or outdoor football, one of the exercise things from the long lockdown- Joe Wicks, one of the yoga things (cosmic yoga is one that comes to mind), challenge to see how much he improves over time with e.g. 30sec of star jumps, high knees, bum kicks and count them all. Repeat tomorrow.
Cleaning!

I would set up a deliberate safe obstacle course all round the house with a different physical activity at every "station". Under chair legs, down the stairs on your bum, commando crawl under the duvet, jump over some toys as hurdles, jumping jacks. Maybe he could relay some Christmas decorations from the back door to his bedroom or something?

Jump Start Jonny does great workout videos for that age, mine found it easier to follow & more fun than Joe Wicks or you could alternate the two.

Go noodle videos on YouTube are good, I think jo wicks is a bit too tough for that age.

Search for cosmic kids yoga on YouTube - they've just got us through isolation with a four year old.

I made my self isolating 6 year old do 40 laps of the garden today before he was allowed back in the house BlushGrin

Following, 5 year old also isolating and full of energy to burn. Luckily the weather has been vile which makes it a bit easier!

Bexily · 23/12/2020 17:09

Thank you all for the ideas I will definitely be using some!

We've just done some old party songs Aga do etc. Definitely going to get him out in the garden tomorrow.

Thanks for all these suggestions. I have self-isolating 6 and 9 year olds (both covid contacts at school but not the same contact as their isolation period ends on different dates). They are bored and miserable and have barely moved off the settee. Yesterday the moaned because they wanted to go to the park. On a normal day if I suggest going to the park, they moan that they don't want to. Obviously, because they know they can't, they desperately want to. We got them a new bike and scooter for Christmas that they won't be able to use for a few days. Our garden is turning into a mud bath, as it has absolutely poured down today, but I might throw them out there in their wellies anyway tomorrow.
