Her name is Nico, and she’s used for show entertainment by her owner but Christ..

Imagine if she escaped, flew into your house and cried like that at 1am in the morning

@Soubriquet

Now that bird looks like it’s trying to hold all its nerves together as a 3 year old had another tantrum
It's like looking in a mirror Grin
AlexaPlayWhiteNoise · 23/12/2020 14:25

@Pinkywoo

AlexaPlayWhiteNoise I see your harpy eagle and raise you a shoebill crane.
4yo DS looked over my shoulder as I opened that picture "I think I would like one of those Mummy!" "Well you're going to be disappointed mate" Grin
Pinkywoo · 23/12/2020 14:33

I don't think he would, they're as tall as me and eat ducks whole!

They can only hear a sound once and mimic it. There is a murderer in America who was caught for killing his partner because her parrot mimicked her cries for help as he killed her.....sinister....

LuckyAmy1986 · 23/12/2020 14:57

@AlexaPlayWhiteNoise that is horrific. None of the others come close!

Pinkywoo · 23/12/2020 15:04

LuckyAmy1986 are you sure?

I think this is the most disturbing bird ever
LuckyAmy1986 · 23/12/2020 16:56

@Pinkywoo that is creepy (what is that?!) but that other one... it's face is sort of human like which really freaks me out!

LuckyAmy1986 · 23/12/2020 16:56

Ignore me, sorry that's the shoe bill crane isn't it? I didn't even know these horror birds existed!

Pinkywoo · 23/12/2020 17:07

I got it wrong he's actually a stork not a crane, but still massive and cool/scary Grin

@RizzleDrizzle

Corvids can and do mimic sounds. Crows and blackbirds have both been heard doing it

Thank you (genuinely) I was just coming back to say ok my mistake it appears corvids do mimic.

Doesn’t however take away from my point that intelligence really has nothing to do with it, it takes daily training for months of not years to get a parrot to mimic even the simplist of sounds. They don’t “just pick it up” regardless of their intelligence.

This bird has been exposed to the sound of a crying child repeatedly and encouraged to repeat that sound repeatedly.

Nah, not funny or entertaining

You would be surprised. I've had a pair of parrots since September and one has picked up on things already, they can both say their name as it's said to them enough. But one of them says one of my children's names, probably the one I don't say the most weirdly 😆 I think they like the sound "Jacob". 😆

Mine aren't as clear speaking through as that one. They say most parrot species have the intelligence of a toddler which is pretty advanced I think. They have personalities and favourite people. They learn (like not to fly into windows 🙈).

They hate not being part of the family and included, they hate us leaving or not being able to see us. If I go out of sight they will screech for us. One you have spoken to them they are ok, but they don't like not being able to see us. Which I assume is what that one is doing. Learnt that if it makes that noise it will get attention and therefore does it when it sees them leaving.

Where I used to live cats would fight all night, and they sounded just like children crying. It was already meant to be a haunted area and it was terrifying hearing that in the middle of the night before i worked out what it was

user1471565182 · 23/12/2020 17:23

They've managed to rediscover lost languages because of parrots speaking it. I cant imagine they will have heard the same thing many times over and over so I can imagine them picking up crying from a couple of times.

GCAcademic · 23/12/2020 17:26

Just imagine. Your kid grows out of that phase, but then you’re stuck for the next 40 years with a parrot who carries it on.

FatCatThinCat · 23/12/2020 17:33

Did you see the footage of the one that sounds like a woman screaming 'let me out' and crying every time it was put in it's cage? The neighbours called the police because they were so worried..

Soubriquet · 23/12/2020 17:36

Yep I saw that!

And he bought out the bird

Plot twist....he secretly had a woman in the basement and his plan was foiled by the bird Shock

Not really but how cool would that have been
