I want a fabulous 2021 diary

I need to organise myself really well if I want to survive 2021 - I've got so much on! I'm going to juggle a full-time job, a PhD and 3 school-aged children.

I wonder if a beautiful diary might make me want to write lists and tick them off? My 2020 diary is nothing special and I can't be bothered writing into it. I realise the problem is me rather than the diary but who knows... Grin

This is good for making lists busyb.co.uk/a6-to-do-diary-2021-2076

I recommend a bullet journal (not the arty variety). I find the other kind too prescriptive / restrictive with their small weekend spaces and not enough room for notes and lists.

TR888 · 23/12/2020 12:20

Thanks! I need more space per day, ideally. Also, I don't necessarily need pretty covers- the main thing I like in diaries is good quality paper and a nice "feel" to the covers.

I saw a brilliant one where each day was split into 2-hour blocks (or so), there was space for weekly and monthly lists, etc, but the paper was really thin, so I didn't buy it.

There must be more diary connoisseurs out there...

Hobonichi diaries have excellent paper. Very thin and but even takes a fountain pen without feathering or bleed-through.

It comes in a range of sizes, A5, A6, and a slim B6 version with a different layout.

The A5 version has a monthly calendar, a weekly view, and daily pages. That’s the one my husband uses (he’s a teacher, so has to be organised). I use the B6 version as I don’t have as much going on.

This was my choice for this year and next ... although this years has been pretty bare thanks to covid and zero plans.

I like a lot of space, minimal fuss, decent quality and something quite chunky so it ticks all my boxes.

I've just bought www.paperblanks.com/en/product/12-month/2021-sea-fantasies/dg7041-2
to keep myself organised next year. Good luck with the PhD!

MilkshakeandFries · 23/12/2020 17:30

I'm quite fussy about my diary but I don't like to spend much on it. The one I had last year was from Typo and has withstood the battering it gets in my handbag, has nice thick paper and an elastic around it so I can shove letters in there too.

TR888 · 23/12/2020 18:53

Wow, thanks. I'll hace a look at the options!

How about a filofax - personal size is probably the most portable but A5 would have more room. There are tons of inserts (not just the standard ones that come with the planner) if you have a printer (I use Annieplansprintables a lot).

Or a Happy Planner, more difficult to get hold of (I'd use Craftelier, it's an EU website)

Stickybbqwings · 23/12/2020 19:38

I really love the Papier ones. Space to write your goals for each month and lots of room for lists. Also very beautiful and good quality feel to them

I like Soho Diary from Smythson - www.smythson.com/uk/black-2021-soho-diary-with-pocket-1027494.html?cgid=322

I am on my second one from Mum’s Office: www.mumsoffice.co.uk/ they have a columns for each member of the family / up to 5. Lots of space for lists.

I got the slightly larger one.

TooManyDogsandChildren · 23/12/2020 20:21

I use a planner instead which hangs on the fridge and is very useful for answering questions from the DC with "look at the planner" :). Plenty of room to write, including a shopping list and a column for each family member and I have been known to write on the back of the pages too. It follows the school year (so possibly not ideal if you want something right now) and I buy a new one every year and have done since the DC were tiny.

this one

HoxtonBonnet · 23/12/2020 20:25

I like the Moleskine ones - the A4 size with a double page spread that has the week on one side and a blank page for notes on the other. I am an obsessive list maker so it's perfect for me!

SausagePourHomme · 23/12/2020 20:28

I very much agree with Moleskine A4 double page (week to view on one page, notes on the other). I buy one every year.

£175 on a diary? How can a diary ever justify that cost
