How do you make it Christmassy?

I'm at home with 2 DC aged 3 and 5. On my own, waiting test results.

All my childhood Christmases involved lots of cousins, aunts, GPS etc. We usually go to my mum's, with my siblings and their DC.

I'm aware that now my DC are getting more aware, that we don't have any Christmas things we do at home. Just seems like the same old stuff!

Anyone got any Christmassy games or suggestions?

Your DC are the perfect age for some Christmas baking, tomorrow you could bake cookies to leave out for Father Christmas.

Have you got any popcorn? you could thread some to make decorations.

Use your TV to make a fireplace (I use Amazon Prime but you can probably also find it on Netflix/You Tube, and then play boardgames or do puzzles with some Christmas songs in the background and a cup of tea for you.

If you've got a garden you could try to make a wreath but that might be a bit tricky for the 3 year old.

Hope you all have a lovely time and don't feel too poorly Smile

Thank you Camomila . We do have a fireplace and they love a fire. I'm going to put a film on later and hope they'll watch it! The wreath is a great idea.

We're just a bit under the weather.

Ooh I'd bake, do Christmas crafts, eat chocolate whilst watching daft films with that age group! My children are teens now, I miss those days ( although I have told them that watching a film with mum tomorrow is essential!)

Enjoy and hope you're all ok x

Could you print off some festive pictures to colour in or paint? Maybe add glitter?

Definitely some baking - mince pies, cookies, melting snowman biscuits etc.

Hot chocolates with everything.

Make paper chains & paper snowflakes.

Listen to Christmas songs, read Christmas books.

All this is assuming you have nothing festive in at all.

Mine and 4 and 6 and don't have the attention span for big long films (plus DD is a wuss and gets scared by lots of stuff).

We've watched both Wallace and Gromit's Grand Day Out and The Wrong Trousers curled up under blankets the last few days and they've loved them. The Wrong Trousers was a bit scary for the little one but 'snuggle up and hide head in shoulder for a few seconds' rather than 'run out of the room screaming' which is often an issue here.

Also this year paper chains have been a game changer. Our entire house is festooned in them. They love making them.

So sorry you're all poorly, hope you find something fun that you all enjoy :)

I was going to suggest paper chains and snowflakes. Films, games, Christmas music on.

Hope you're ok, OP. DH now having to isolate as he's been in close contact (at gym). We were going to drop presents off today/tomorrow. Friend says she'll do a doorstop drop off, BIL doesn't want to come anywhere near and other BIL thinking about it. We hadn't planned to see the family in person, but had been hoping to open presents over zoom with them.

We have Christmas music on from the second we wake up until we go to sleep!

Christmas baking (yesterday we made a panettone apple crumble, today is pumpkin pie).

Christmas crafts or simply getting them to draw Christmas pictures (maps for Father Christmas are popular here!)

Christmas films with mince pies

I feel your pain though...Christmas doesn’t feel the same without festive gatherings with friends and family.

We are isolating too but my DC are a bit older. Yesterday, I wrapped some presents in brown paper and got DC to decorate them with felt tips. They really enjoyed it and we've got unique xmas wrapping that I dont want to unwrap. This assumes you have got presents that need wrapping and brown paper. We also made paper chains and jam tarts. With xmas music on, the christmassy factor went up 100%!!

Crafts, baking, films, music, games! 🥰

Getting ready- baking, cleaning house, finishing wrapping etc. We might watch a Christmas movie later. Shaking gifts under the tree in passing and guessing what they are.

ImFree2doasiwant · 23/12/2020 13:35

Thanks all. I always feel being at home without me (separated) is a bit of a let down, but actually, reading your posts has made me realise we've done lots of this stuff this week . We've painted, glittered and stuck Christmas cards for the grandparents. Baked, wrapped presents , decorated an extra tree that i gave them free rein on.

Thank you all, I feel better about it now. Smile
