@Spudlet mine is like this too! I am planning to prod it again first thing in the morning and hope it has thawed a little more by then Xmas Shock

BashfulClam · 23/12/2020 23:32

@Spudlet

Actually tell a lie, it was a lot later in the morning than that. It’s been that sort of a day. Still a bit worried that it doesn’t seem to have thawed at all though 😬
Just started a thread ad mind seems a bit too frozen still...I read about defrosting in cold water, replacing the water every 30 minutes. It apparently cuts the time down for mine to 4 hours do I’ll do that tomorrow.
FleeceNavidadToEwe · 24/12/2020 08:54

defrost defrost defrost

My turkey is doing along nicely, but I just remembered the stuffing and chipolatas and bacon for the pigs in blankets need to come out of the freezer.

I took mine out at 10 last night. Its still as frozen as when I did that! Do I need to take the wrapping off? I'm going to leave it in the fridge until tonight then if it's still really frozen I'll take it out to defrost on the side overnight

drinkingwineoutofamug · 24/12/2020 09:16

Took out of freezer last night. Just removed from the bag and all is good.
Have taken pigs in blankets out to defrost now.
Ham ready to go in slow cooker and turkey will get cooked tonight.

FleeceNavidadToEwe · 24/12/2020 09:25

@Pearsapiece Yes, take I out of the wrapper, remove any bags of giblets and loosen the string to separate the legs from the body.

I linked to some instructions upthread. Good luck

MrsBobBlackadder · 24/12/2020 09:28

Argh!!! Stray biscuit emoji in there! Sorry Blush

MrsGrindah · 24/12/2020 09:28

That’s all well and good OP but why didn’t you remind me to buy some chutney for the cheeseboard when I was out yesterday eh?

redcandlelight · 24/12/2020 09:38

my chicken says 8 hours in the fridge.
I will take it out this evening into a camping coolbox on the balcony.
fridge is full and the cool box is easy to clean afterwards.

FleeceNavidadToEwe · 24/12/2020 09:39

MrsGrindah, so sorry, I feel your pain. Tesco subbed my Red onion chutney with chilli relish last night!

HelloCanYouHearMe · 24/12/2020 09:45

My small crown (for 2 with leftovers) was subbed for a large frozen turkey to feed 10. Arrived at 8pm yesterday, left out all night and still frozen...

Its currently bathing in the kitchen sink

Was hoping to have had it in the oven by midday for tonights dinner 😕

HagenDaz · 24/12/2020 09:47

And it’s time to put the sprouts on.

LadyPenelope8 · 24/12/2020 09:56

My dh has taken his Iceland Bernard Matthews (I know) turkey crown out the freezer this morning - should he be defrosting it in the fridge rather than on the worktop?? It's a 2.520kg crown, medium

redcandlelight · 24/12/2020 09:59

it's safest to defrost slowly at fridge temperature (4-8 degrees).

LadyPenelope8 · 24/12/2020 10:05

I thought it should be in the fridge, how long will it take do you think? Will it be ready to go in the oven some time tomorrow?

redcandlelight · 24/12/2020 10:27

my chicken is about the same weight as your crown and the instruction say 8 hours in the fridge. but I will take it out to defrost tonight for dinner tomorrow.

FleeceNavidadToEwe · 24/12/2020 10:38

Better to start defrosting now as the thawed meat can kept in the fridge for 24-48 hours.
From the NHS guidance:

To work out the defrosting time for your turkey, first check the packaging for any guidance. If there are no defrosting instructions, thaw your turkey in a fridge at 4C (39F) for 10 to 12 hours per kilogram. Be aware that not all fridges will be set to this temperature.

When your turkey is fully defrosted, keep it in the fridge until you're ready to cook it.

I've moved it to the fridge!!! Thanks all!

Spudlet · 25/12/2020 08:49

It’s still frozen on the inside! 😣

FleeceNavidadToEwe · 25/12/2020 19:32

@Spudlet hope you got it sorted?

OP posts:
Spudlet · 25/12/2020 20:10

Yes, thank goodness! We finished it off in the sink in cold water (and then bleached the sink to within an inch of its life). So far, we are not dead 👍
