I've spent the last few days in a total Rona Slump, with zero motivation wondering what the point is this Christmas.

Well I found my bloody motivation today, it was under the kitchen sink, right next to all the friggin mouse shit that wasn't there 2 days ago.

Give me your best mouse eradication techniques! There are a million different traps and poisons online but I don't know what is best to deal with this as quickly and decisively as possible.

I'm headed out to buy a shit tonne of bleach, what else do I need?

P.s. I'm not a mouse hater per se, I've had quite a few pet mice over the years and I think they are adorable as invited guests who stay in their allotted spaces. Actually pretty perfect pets for kids. But I don't want wild ones running rampant pissing in my cabinets and eating all my Christmas treats Xmas Shock

The traps are set, the kitchen is gleaming and stinking of Zoflora and bleach.

Shamefully I hadn't realised quite how grubby the skirting had got until I was up close and personal with every nook and cranny Xmas Blush

I'll not be able to move tomorrow after all the scrubbing on hands and knees today. Why did I ever want to be a grown up.

Parcel tape in my experience is sufficient for covering gaps. The big cheese snap traps are good and easy to set. Make sure there are no food sources.
We moved into one house and found mice, set 20 traps and they were all full in the morning! We had two cats and a terrier working hard on the problem as well.
A week and you should be clear.

We got one! Xmas Shock

I let DH deal with it. It was in the trap on the work top, next to where the bread used to be.

I feel a bit more freaked out now that I've actually seen it on the bench (through fingers from the kitchen doorway).

I've bleached it all to buggery again.

I hope that was our sole rodent lodger, don't really feel up for finding more dead bodies. Turns out I'm far more squeamish than I ever gave myself credit for!

The fact that you managed to at least look at it is amazing, I couldn't even do that! Well done, that's one less.

Keep putting the traps out for a while though.

We got another one tonight too! Same trap in the same place. Thanks for everyone that recommended Nutella, it seems to be working a treat.

The meese have clearly been making a bee line to where the bread is kept. It's all in Tupperware now and I'm suddenly realising why my DGrandparents loved bread-bins. They even had a double decker one in the early nineties. I thought they were just old fashioned wastes of space (bread bins not DGPs). Gonna see if I can add one to my Xmas list now though.

I'm also definitely leaving the traps out for a while now. I think I would be a bit paranoid without them!

Although I'm also about terrified of getting one snapped shut on my finger. Clearly watched too much Tom & Jerry in my time Xmas Hmm

Just keep going with the traps out every night for weeks, months even. That's how we got rid of our little visitors.

Two or three caught one at a time for two weeks, then a week of nothing, then another one. Took about six weeks but then finally nothing.

Buy a roll of mouse mesh off the internet and some clear adhesive in the gun and cut squares and stick them over all your air vents. We had to do this and (touch wood) no little blighters since.

OP we had a small infestation a couple of years ago. None since we

  1. Stop all food availability - not the teeniest crumb (top tip - empty the drawer of your toaster after every use. They will get in there otherwise)
  1. Get some plug in sonic deterrents. I have 2 in my kitchen and not a single mouse in 2 years now. Mine were around £25 for 2.
