Xmas pud : Sit the basin inside the slow cooker ( I put mine on an upturned saucer) Boil the kettle and pour water around the pudding until it comes halfway up. Place the slow-cooker lid on top; it needs to be fully closed, with no gaps. Leave on high for 4 hours.

How does one steam a premade Christmas pudding in the instant pot?!

I've bought one for DP and we don't have a microwave. Can't be arsed faffing around steaming it on the hob if there's an alternative, and he's working so no use...

Ooo crosspost. Will this work for one in a plastic basin, or will that be a melted nightmare?

Red cabbage (Delia recipe) so apple, onion, spices and wine vinegar

Ham on the 24th (again Delia so English mustard, cloves, brown sugar)

Fishfingersandwichplease · 22/12/2020 09:16

Placemarking for Christmas pudding done in a slow cooker instructions - literally have never thought of that before, genius idea!!

EachandEveryone · 22/12/2020 09:36

So if I do gammon before I go to bed will that work or is it best to start it in the morning?

Yes for mulled wine. Set on low and it keeps it at the perfect temperature

NeonSparkle · 22/12/2020 10:26

Doing our small turkey crown on Christmas Eve in the slow cooker - 6 hours on low and then 30 mins in the oven after to crisp up the skin and give it a bit of colour.
Also putting gammon in ours on Christmas morning - on high for 4 hours!

Ham with some honey, wholegrain mustard and about 150ml water. On all day Christmas.
Water? What sacrilege is this? Cider, honey and HG mustard here.
fitflopqueen · 22/12/2020 10:32

Only for the Xmas pudding, it will sit in the utility room out of the way.

I put it in a foil sling and stick it in on high first thing. I cook it in there too back in November, takes about 12 hours to cook and about 5 hours to heat but it doesn’t overcook so I just forget about it. I’m on nights on Xmas eve so will put it in when I get home and then we’ll eat it at about 6pm.
hospitalheist · 22/12/2020 10:51

I'll be putting the pork in (remove the crackling first to do in the oven). I'll put it on overnight and keep hot with foil and towels so I can then put the Christmas pudding in. That way I've got more oven space for the duck, roasties and Yorkshire's

Whatwouldscullydo · 22/12/2020 11:06

I always do the ham in it. Overnight Xmas eve then I glaze and oven it in the morning .

One less thing to worry about then. Usually works well.

BertieBotts · 22/12/2020 11:09

Yep the chicken, our oven is a bit crap and DH is worrying about it so wants to do it in the slow cooker.

If he'd mentioned this to me before I would have tried harder to get goose fat or lard at the supermarket for the potatoes! Oh well.

CisMyArse · 22/12/2020 16:29

Great thread - thank you!

Olivetreekeeper · 22/12/2020 16:45

I made my stock for the gravy in it last week (which has now been frozen). I usually do the ham in it (before finishing in the oven) but we aren't bothering this year as only two of us. I had planned to do a red cabbage, port and pear recipe I saw online but again no point with only two of us as my DH doesn't like red cabbage.

Shorthairlady · 22/12/2020 18:00

I'll be doing a turkey leg in it for me and DD. Salivating just thinking about it.

Gazelda · 22/12/2020 18:04

Pudding on Christmas Day and Gammon on Boxing Day.

EachandEveryone · 22/12/2020 18:15

Oh I wasn’t even going to buy a pudding.....

Slow cooker novice here.....

I've done a ham in it recently and the kids said it was a bit dry. Any suggestions to make it moist?

supadupapupascupa · 22/12/2020 19:04

EachandEveryone · 23/12/2020 16:25
