If you are a teacher would you prefer I kept my children off school now?

No symptoms, but in the interest of the teachers health, if you had a choice, do you wish people didn't send their kids to school right now?

Er, schools are closed.. it’s the Christmas holidays?

SaveloyDip · 21/12/2020 21:28

Still open in Scotland...yes, yes I would

Gingerbready · 21/12/2020 21:30

Should have specified, I'm in Scotland, and schools are still open.

Disclaimer - I'm not a teacher but in charge of pupil welfare, and overseeing the whole covid recording malarkey.

wonderstuff · 21/12/2020 21:32

Definitely don't send them in until term starts.

I'm hoping for a delay to bring virus down, I'd quite like my routine surgery to happen at some point and hospitals to be able to cope. I'm very sceptical of the mass testing.
If schools are open then I think everyone needs to make the best decision for their family, I'm happy teaching in person.

It would seem very selfish to expect the teachers children to miss out on an education, to make it safer for other people’s children to attend school. Also how are the teachers supposed to work if their children are at home? That is if they’ve got primary age children.

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 21/12/2020 21:34

Well I'm one and I haven't sent my own kids in, but I know everyone's circumstances are different and I certainly don't begrudge any pupils who are in.

lovablequalities · 21/12/2020 21:37

School is open so send your child in. I need to make sure they have their log in details and work for the remote week. It's such a headache to do this by email.

VashtaNerada · 21/12/2020 21:37

It’s been really hard to support learning for the children not at school. It’s totally your choice but I wouldn’t second-guess what the teachers want. My heart always sinks when I get a message that another child’s not coming in that day.

Not here they are not.
IndecentFeminist · 21/12/2020 21:40

Nope, not in the slightest. Very happy to be in and with the kids.

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 21/12/2020 21:41

We don't have to support learning though if they are off at their parent's behest in the last week of term.
And ours all have their logins and such since the last lockdown.

No. Sorting out home learning for some and in class for others is increasing the workload exponentially. It’s so much easier if they’re in front of me.

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 21/12/2020 21:53

If you're doing home learning for some who are kept off by parents (as opposed to actually self isolating) then you are doing something you don't need to, and there isn't much work to replicate in the last two or three days anyway.

Whitewhite · 21/12/2020 21:54

I’m in Scotland and was wondering this too. I felt almost guilty sending them in. But watching them play in the playground, smile, run around and be kids I knew I’d made the right decision. Regardless if there is hardly any teaching in the last few days, he’s about to be in a house for the best part of a month, no friends, no socialising and so I absolutely will send them in for that alone.

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 21/12/2020 21:56

Positive case in my dd's school today.

Yup we are in till 12 on the 23rd. I was surprised at how many turned up today. And then they were surprised when I said we were working!
DollyMixtureLulus · 21/12/2020 22:05

If they can access whichever platform they use for online learning, yes, I would.

We’re doing our best but it’s not very festive with no singing and distancing! We have been told to keep them in their seating chart places (so no moving around to sit beside a friend etc), and the risk of having to isolate...

I’m only just back from isolation and my school has had so many cases and popped bubbles that I am more aware of it though.

midnightstar66 · 21/12/2020 22:51

My dc came home on Friday and told me their teachers had said they don't need to come in this week- well they do as I work in another school! (emails from school strongly hinted at this too) we're just praying to get to the end without another burst bubble now, but with more last week alone than in the entire rest of the school year it's not hopeful. 18 staff off and more staff and pupils dropping like flies. Yes I think it would be better if kids just stayed home now and stayed safe

Er, clearly not or this would not have been posted Hmm
