Track and trace

Hi everyone,

Primary teacher here. Got covid from a pupil who tested positive.

I have isolated for 10 days. (Tested positive too)

Track and trace have called me 8 times.

Keep missing and getting stressed out now!

Do I HAVE TO answer?

Or is it optional?

Thank you

Why wouldn't you answer?

2020out · 21/12/2020 12:57

I stopped answering because they asked inane questions and I felt sick and breathless when talking. Was fine.

I did do the initial "who have you been in contact with" call. It was useless. They didn't even ask the questions that would have found my close contacts.

Trailing1 · 21/12/2020 12:58

They kept badgering us (mind you we are a big family) so they had to ring for each of us. It was crap as they would ring while I was putting the baby to bed etc.
You dont have to answer, we felt so harassed as with the volume of calls we couldn't rest so we turned our phones off, they then sent a text and said we could fill in details of any close contacts on an online link.

It’s test and trace.

Unless it was Royal Mail calling you.

Kitkat05 · 21/12/2020 13:07

@Trailing1 thank you for the reply. I am in the same position. They keep calling when I’m putting LO to sleep or trying to feed her. (She is a fussy eater)

I feel like switching off my phone too. Family members have given my number too so I feel the calls will get worse. It does feel like being harrassed. Good to know I’m not the only one feeling like this :)

@2020out someone said it took 45 mins? That is too long for me to be on the phone :/ my whole class has self isolated so not sure what the issue is.

I hope you feel better soon, its such a crappy illness.

Plonque · 21/12/2020 13:17

Do you have a landline? If so I'd do a quick round robin text to close family and friends saying you're turning your mobile off and to contact you on the LL if need be.
If you don't have a LL put your phone on Do not Disturb mode and leave it out of sight. Pick up any other messages every so often and just clear the missed calls.

T&T surely can't expect ill people to answer multiple phone calls. I know when my friend had it she could barely hold her phone up!
If anything comes of it just say you were ill and couldn't answer.

Orf1abc · 21/12/2020 13:25

If you're confident that you've told everyone that you need to, and that they'll understand what they need to do, then I'd ignore them. As a teacher you're more than capable of managing this.

Secretsout · 21/12/2020 14:07

I work for T&T as a case worker calling the confirmed cases. Once we have spoken to you to obtain your contacts and check symptoms and make sure you're ok then we complete the file and it's closed. You'll be called up to 10 times 4 hours apart then marked as follow up failed if we don't get through.

If you can grab the phone to answer we can schedule your call for a time to suit you (8am - 8pm)

The contact tracers who deal with contacts do lots of follow up calls so that's perhaps where people get confused by the persistent calls and messages.

I was called for the tracking call.

I was then called again 3 days later.

I then had 12 missed calls on the final day of my isolation.

So this is incorrect.

Thats bollocks

They call daily for a chat. Sometimes 3 times a day. I did suggest that Annabelle spoke to Pete and asked him what my response was as it was only 10 minutes since I had spoken to him

They couldn't help with walking my dog. They did offer a food parcel

Sophie said I was the nicest person on her list as most just swear- she loved chatting to me. I explained I was on my way into hospital and now wasn't the best time but bless her I felt she needed the company and so kept talking.
