Three days now! (Parking thread)

A visitor to one of the houses opposite me has parked his car just to the left of my drive, on opposite side of street.

The houses opposite have a communal car park of allocated spaces, separated from the road by bushes. Certain he's visiting one of them as I know my neighbours on my side and they'd put the visitors on their drives and there's room.

Due to combination of my drive emerging at apex of a curve and landscaping bushes (including bloody Berberis) growing either side, I cannot get out of my drive without swinging the nose onto the opposite side of the road even on a normal day (I've tried!).

So currently I either have to do a three point turn to get out of my drive (or turn left and have to drive round the entire estate to get back to the exit).

Even more annoying the estate has loads of lay-bys for visitor parking, two of which he drove past and another just a few metres round the corner.

Technically he's not doing anything wrong as there's no double yellow lines, but when there's plenty of viable alternatives it's just so damn annoying and inconsiderate.

He’s the only one that even parks there (he's visited a couple of times before for a couple of hours) but he's been there three days now.

I'm waiting eagerly to pounce and ask if he realises that I'm a silly little woman who cannot drive and needs the whole road to myself 😁

Diagram attached as it's MN law!

Blinking 'eck. First time I've ever seen a parking thread basically ignored.

And it's up to four days now.

Can't you reverse out of your drive so your bum is going towards "rest of estate" and then drive onward?

I reverse onto my drive because cars come flying round the corner or out the layby road too fast at times so safer to have a good view by going forward

Put a note on the car asking them to move as it’s blocking access to your drive.
I’d say that they are going to be “visiting” until after Christmas now.

PerveenMistry · 22/12/2020 00:01

For what it's worth, I licked my chops when I read your subject line. Such a nice change from Covid/Christmas.

If the car moves can you nip into that spot before he returns?

Didicat · 22/12/2020 07:05

Is the car still there? Do you know a rugby team?

FairfaxAikman · 22/12/2020 09:52

Still there. No rugby players in the near vicinity either 😢

Why would I nip into that space when I have a drive big enough for my car and of my own visitors cars?

No one really parks on the street as we all have spaces/drives and there's a number of layby areas for visitors.

It's normally such a non-issue that we don't even have double yellows (or any other road markings for that matter) at junctions in the estate.

I'd try a very passive aggressive laboured 45 point manoeuvre with the hope they clock on. Hang on, maybe I wouldn't cause then they'd assume I was a terrible driver.

Option 2 ? Knock on their door and ask them to move 2 metres up the road.

newnamenancy · 22/12/2020 10:04

Have you actually asked him/her to move rather than seething silently?

Just knock on some doors and explain when you find them. I'm sure no one would mind moving forward a meter or whatever it took.

ChateauMargaux · 22/12/2020 10:10

Knock on doors and ask the owner to move

nosswith · 22/12/2020 10:14

Ask him to move. If you get an unreasonable response, then your revenge is to report any breaches of your local Covid 19 tier of that household.

TodgerStrunk · 22/12/2020 10:21

You're just going to have to make a flask and pack a lunch and sit in your car until you see someone about to get in the parked car- then lurch forward out of your drive and do the 34 point turn out of your drive, barely missing their car every time as they look on appalled. Shrug your shoulders each time they flinch as you head towards their car, revs up.

FairfaxAikman · 22/12/2020 10:32

Knocked doors and no one seems to know who it belongs to (or aren't admitting it because they fear getting into trouble for breaching covid restrictions)

I suggested you take that space because it would be easier to exit it, than to use your drive, from what you've described.

Seems you'd rather just complain, though.

What else can I do except complain? I've knocked doors to no avail. It's also safer for me to park on my drive - had cars hit elsewhere while parked on a public road
