Books or audio books. How much do you read.

I got audible for Christmas last year. The twelve credits didn’t last long as I like to listen to the play books not the narrated ones. So have bought lots of new credits.
I listen to my audio books when I’m work.

I have a very short attention span due to my over use of my mobile. But I’m trying to change that. I have bought a ton of new books for Christmas and I plan on reading as much as I can.

How often do you read ? How do you fit it in. I’m thinking as I’m busy during the day I need to go to bed earlier and read for an hour before I lay down. This time would have been spent on my phone Confused.

Do you carve out a certain time in your day or when you grab some quiet time.

I wonder if it would be better to carry on listening to the books instead of reading ???

I can get through one a week. I read my kindle whilst the kids are playing rather than being on my phone, plus a bit at bedtime.

badlydrawnbear · 20/12/2020 14:22

I read my kindle while DC are in the bath and while waiting for my non-sleeping wonderchild to go to sleep. I read my books on the bus to and from work and sometimes before I go to sleep.

I read every moment I can. I take my kindle to work and read on my lunch, I read every evening once the kids are in bed and I read all weekend long with breaks for laundry and cleaning the house. My Goodreads reading goal for 2020 was 75 books. I just finished book #92! 📚

TakeMeToYourLiar · 20/12/2020 15:19

I read a lot, I've read 95 books so far this year. I read a lot overnight in first lockdown when I couldn't sleep. Now I have pregnancy insomnia and listen to audible

DelphineWalsh · 20/12/2020 15:32

I want to read more but I need absolute silence and no distractions otherwise I just read the words and nothing actually computes so I get half way through and I suddenly don't understand whats going on with the story.

magicstar1 · 20/12/2020 15:39

I used to listen to books on my commute to work...an hour each way every day. Plus reading a couple each week. Since the first lockdown I haven’t read one book.
I realised this recently so have an audiobook on the go now. I miss reading.

Paranoidmarvin · 20/12/2020 15:53

@DelphineWalsh me too. Hence why I struggle a lot.

I read in bed every night before turning out the light. Also sometimes when I'm waiting for one of the DC to finish an activity. I listen to Audible books only when I'm driving.

thelegohooverer · 20/12/2020 17:11

I think MN interferes with my reading so I’m going to start scheduling reading time and put my phone away in another room.

I used to listen to audible while doing housework but after the lockdown the silence in the house when the dc are at school and dh is working is just bliss.

LuvMyBoyz · 20/12/2020 20:50

I have read 93 books this year so far. I don’t take my phone into the bedroom so I read my kindle at bedtime for about an hour and I only need 5 or 6 hours sleep so when I wake up I read then as well. I also read in the daytime during the first lockdown but rarely do this usually.

Paranoidmarvin · 21/12/2020 07:37

@LuvMyBoyz I wish I could leave my phone outside. I have tinnitus. And currently listening to something while I fall asleep helps to cover the ringing in my ears. I need to find a way to listen to audible with out my phone

I’m like you in that my attention span has gone and I want to read. I really miss being taken away and living in a different world for a while. I used to get so immersed and read well into the night, just desperate to know what would happen next.
I loved fantasy and all those worlds just stirred something in me.
I’d love to get that back but I struggle to get through even a chapter of any book. And the only books I seem to be able to read now are those simple ‘page turner’ ones and even then, I’m not always bothered about what’s going on.
Anything more complex seems beyond me now Sad
