& haven't specified a safe place from their list; do they leave it or take it back?

I need the delivery (some things for dd2's birthday). But I also need to nip out. & the email just says "up to 9pm)

Could they leave it with a neighbour, I've taken a few for my neighbour while she's working, I'm at home so the delivery men would knock and ask.

Amazon always just leave on the door step for us. We are right on a main street, so lots of people walking past --- luckily so far none of the parcels have been taken, but I am sure it is only a matter of time.

JamesMoriarty · 20/12/2020 10:41

Mine put them under the doormat. Not very discreet.

Left on the doormat but we always have to take in NDN parcels.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/12/2020 10:44

They mainly leave it with the neighbours, or sometimes behind the bin. In one case they hid it under the doormat, which looked pretty odd as it was not a flat item. Another time it was just leaned up against the wall.

Amazingly I haven't had anything nicked yet!

lucysmam · 20/12/2020 10:45

Wow, thank you all!

It turned up while I was upstairs getting dressed so no need to have asked after all! But good to know for future that they will more than likely leave it somewhere if you're not in rather than just take it away again.

If you’re not in they’re supposed to take it away with them but their job depends on the number of deliveries they make in each shift so they never do if they can help it. Better to take the risk of porch pirates, angry customers etc. than a guaranteed dismissal.

Flapjackninja · 20/12/2020 10:48

I've never specified a safe place for mine. They either leave with a neighbor or update the online tracking with "sorry we missed you your parcel will be delivered the next working day"

@snookercue have lived in central belt and north east of Scotland and Amazon have never PERSONALLY delivered thing, the same as any other online shop. Delivered by royal mail or Hermes or dpd!

I think that might be specific to your local area, amazon have hoards of their own deliveries drivers, it's been a real growth area during the pandemic, there are always advertising for drivers.

And yes, I do know they are self employed but essentially they only deliver for amazon

Odd. Amazon is one of the biggest delivery companies in the U.K.

Gingerkittykat · 21/12/2020 14:54

They dump it on the doorstep and then leave a card saying left in porch.

Luckily nothing has gone missing.

They do take pictures of the delivery sometimes so you can see on the tracking where they left it.

OrigamiOwl · 21/12/2020 16:14

I used to do Amazon delivery... If you weren't in of try and call, if that failed is try the neighbours, failing that is take it back to the depot. If I left it somewhere not specified by the customer and it went missing then I'd be in trouble. So I'd take it back to the depot.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/12/2020 16:15

Never specified a safe place but they usually leave it behind my bin in the back garden.

40somethingJBJ · 21/12/2020 16:47

Mine tend to just throw the parcel in the direction of the door and scuttle off without even knocking!

Justmuddlingalong · 21/12/2020 16:51

SS's PS5 was left on his front doorstep when he was delayed and not home. It wasn't in an amazon box, just the original packaging. He was incredibly lucky that it was still there when he got home.
