Due to the new restrictions I am now alone this week. I am thinking about my delicious menu for 1. I am on leave, have access to a few supermarkets, a greengrocers and butchers. I am a reasonable cook and now I am catering for 1 can be a little extravagant.
I am sure there are lots of us in this position can we come up with ideas?

This sounds like a good idea. Or would you like to stick to any traditions wrt the food?

Breakfast: smoked salmon bagel & freshly made bucks fizz

Lunch: Beef wellington with roasted veg and mustardy mac & cheese
Individual boozy trifle or chocolate pudding
Large glass of really good wine

Evening: cheese & charcuterie board, christmas pudding, fancy cocktail

NellietheNumpty · 20/12/2020 09:29

Thanks for the responses.
@Neeks888 I am loving your style. It is not just myself I am hoping to inspire other people who can chose just for themselves even if that is not by choice.
@TechnoDino. I definitely got Mac and cheese on my menu now. I think possibly for Christmas Eve. I also like cauliflower cheese so I could make extra sauce and use it Boxing Day. I hadn’t thought about drinks but mixing a cocktail sounds fun.

The fish van had some incredible king scallops this week. Scallops and crispy pancetta with pureéd peas?

IrenetheQuaint · 20/12/2020 09:32

Think I am going to cook duck in a creamy sauce. Perhaps a Gu pudding for dessert. Definitely making myself a bacon sandwich for breakfast!

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 20/12/2020 09:34

A fine cheese board of the stinkiest cheeses, earthiest crackers, quince jelly, membrillo, toasted walnuts, grapes, celery, piled high like a Ditch painting

To be returned to frequently

Many different novelty drinks

TodgerStrunk · 20/12/2020 09:35

Waitrose lamp rump steak with rosemary and balsamic vinegar crust. With mac and cheese, or potato gratin.

Scones and clotted cream for a mini afternoon tea.

Cans of premixed cocktails (and I would include Malibu and pineapple in there)

Some sort of chocolate cheesecake. Or melting chocolate pud. Or both.

Pigs in blankets and yorkshires with perhaps carrot and Swede mash. I'm thinking all the good Christmas sides on one plate.

SaxonWassail · 20/12/2020 09:36

I am slightly envious!

Starter - Waiutrose do some lovely salmon terrines. Add a dollop of salmon roe on the top with brown bread.

Main- A small roqasted chicken with garlic, lemon and thyme and white wine,. Bread sauce (My fave) vegetables you wish for.

Pudidng- Christmas pudding ice cream. i get vanilla, glace cherries, some stollen cake (from Lidl or Aldi) chocolate chips and brandy. Mix together.

@Butterflystar76. Actually I like the idea of new traditions or even just a year to be playful with the menu.
Has anyone made cinnamon buns? Are they tricky and how could I have them hot on the day?
@OrangeGinLemonFanta. Loving it. I am also thinking about lobster and home made chips.
The good thing about this is that I will be so busy cooking up a storm I won’t feel the lack of other things. On Boxing Day it will be cheese sauce and washing up with added cocktails.

@Ihatemyseleffordoingthis You have made me smile for the first time since the great Christmas cancellation of 2020. I just love the idea of sitting there on Christmas evening with a feast of adult picky bits on the coffee table. I will raise a glass to you.
So many wonderful ideas.

We make cinnamon buns every year for Xmas breakfast, it takes ages but in a pleasurable way

Make the dough Xmas eve, let it prove overnight, or put in fridge if they are too expansive - pop in the oven on Xmas morning - we do the swedish- ish version. We also do extra and freeze a roll of it if we want more another day, just because.

caringcarer · 20/12/2020 10:19

Don't forget to have plenty of good wine or champagne to wash it all down. Have a please yourself day.

NellietheNumpty · 20/12/2020 10:35

@Ihatemyseleffordoingthis
That is a great tradition making cinnamon buns. I didn't know you can prove overnight. I was thinking about how to make a small quantity but freezing makes sense. Just because.

Quince jelly and cheese...mmm. Hats off for the positivity, people.

Mintjulia · 20/12/2020 11:00

Smoked salmon and cream cheese on blinis, champagne

Roast chicken, pigs in blankets, all the trimmings
Ginger ice-cream with really good mince pies

A selection of nibbly bits, ham, pickles and warm fresh bread for supper

Accompanied by music, Netflix, video calls and then a long warm bubbly bath, with a little more champagne, new pjs and fresh laundered bed linen

Smile.

My Christmas dinner is in the freezer because I CBA with cooking and plan on taking the dog for a long walk in the morning. I have M&S cauliflower cheese and potato and spinach gratin, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and veggie sausages. Plus three types of cheese in the fridge, crackers and mini bruschetta.

Oh yes. And frozen Apple strudel and two types of Haagen Daaz. And Prosecco which I intend to put passion fruit puree in. And wine. And quite a lot of crisps.

I might get some smoked salmon at some point this week, and once I’ve eaten some of the freezer contents I intend to get a shed load of party food for my NYE party for one.

Also I need some more chocolate. Always need more chocolate.

NellietheNumpty · 20/12/2020 11:24

@Mintjulia. I love it. Your brilliant plan sounds like a spa day at a fantasy Christmas spa day. I think that is my favourite desert too with mince pies and ginger ice cream.
@Squirrel26 Sadly I don’t have dog but a walk could be in order. However you definitely have a vote for you chocolate entry on the menu. I like dark mint chocolate so that could also involve me completing a taste trial too. DS stuck in a horrible flat in London has bought me dark chocolate covered cherries from Fortnum or somewhere I can eat mints now and bring the cherries come the liberation of London.

I’m on my own Christmas Eve and Christmas Day morning (until kids return ).
Christmas Eve will be cheese board with meats and pickled onions etc and prosecco .
Christmas Day morning will be panettone .

NellietheNumpty · 20/12/2020 11:30

@wendz86 Stylish. I am now looking at cinnamon bun receipts so we could raise a glass to each other on Christmas Day.
I am also wondering about a Christmas Eve supermarket sweep and buying random stuff to eat.

OP posts:
Foghead · 20/12/2020 11:31

A seafood stew
And a panettone bread and butter pudding

RockstarMartini · 20/12/2020 11:45

My random suggestions along with all the other delicious things suggested would be chorizo pigs in blankets (CoOp), Poinsettia cocktails (Nigella Xmas - Prosecco, Cointreau and cranberry juice) and a sweep of the M&S food hall 😋
