So despite wfh and only going out for shopping and to pick up a take away I seem to have contracted some sorta lurgy. I’m in Scotland and worried I might have covid, hopefully not. I feel queasy and a bit flu like and like a heavy cold is working on me. I do have a slight cough, not continuous, my throat hurts but my temperature seems fine. Do I just have normal Christmas lurgy or should I get a test? It’s all I need ffs!

You should probably get tested for your own peace of mind.

My 18yr old felt like that last week. I ordered him a test online on the Sunday morning, it arrived the next day and he had a (thankfully) negative result by 3am Wednesday.

BashfulClam · 20/12/2020 00:54

I don’t want to take up a test if I don’t need it. The thing is mil is determined she is coming on Christmas Day come hell or high water. I don’t want to be responsible for her getting unwell. I’ll get a good nights sleep (since I feel shattered) then see if I feel better and if not I’ll try and get a test.

I would do a test.

But I also think it's the lurgy. I'm in Scotland and have it and so does my son :(

What does "I don't want to take up a test if I don't need it" mean?

If you have symptoms of the C-19 virus then you need a test. Then at least if it is negative you can tell your MIL not to come.

PawPawNoodle · 20/12/2020 01:02

Mr Noodle and I have both been ill for about 2 weeks with not-covid, aptly named because we've had practically every symptom but the fever and both tested negative. We're still on our arses.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 20/12/2020 01:04

You're not taking up a test that isn't needed you are taking a test because you have some symptoms and that is the correct and responsible thing to do!

BashfulClam · 20/12/2020 01:05

@SingingSandsit means what I’ve said. If it’s not covid then a test would be wasted on me when someone more in need could get it. I’ll see tomorrow and if I still feel shite I’ll look into how to get a test. At least it’s only 3.5 days to the Christmas break...

OP posts:
BashfulClam · 20/12/2020 01:07

@Thehogfatherstolemycurry that’s true, I suppose I want to be in denial. My DH has an autoimmune condition so i want to protect him and I’ve done this far and long not getting the bastard and now I might have it.

OP posts:
BashfulClam · 20/12/2020 01:10

Hmm I don’t have any symptoms apart from an occasional cough.

Aw no!
OP posts:
Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 20/12/2020 01:14

At least you'll know either way if you do the test. There isn't a great shortage of them now, you have a cough, many people who've had it have listed flu like symptoms the nhs list isn't exhaustive.

BashfulClam · 20/12/2020 01:18

@Thehogfatherstolemycurry I live a few miles from Glasgow airport so I suppose it’s pretty easy to go for a test. I did notice my appetite has gone too.

OP posts:
firecracker69 · 20/12/2020 01:21

My symptoms were exactly the same as you. I was convinced I didn't have COVID but I went for a test. I was positive.

BashfulClam · 20/12/2020 01:30

Aw 🤦🏻‍♀️ this is all I need right now.

OP posts:
JonasKahnwald · 20/12/2020 01:34

What's wrong with you? Get a test?!

ineedaholidaynow · 20/12/2020 01:40

The cough does not have to be continuous in the sense you are coughing all the time.

WanderingMilly · 20/12/2020 01:47

Get a test, you do have a symptom, that's the cough. I've had COVID and the cough isn't "all the time" at all...
Especially since you have a vulnerable DH and possibly family visiting, you need to know where you stand if only to protect them.
Not sure about your area but in most places there are plenty of tests at the moment so you won't be 'taking up a test' that someone else needs....

BashfulClam · 20/12/2020 02:13

Ok if I still feel like this tomorrow I’ll drive to the airport as they have drive through testing available.it’s an 8 minute drive away (timed it last time we went on holiday so I could tell when to
order taxi next time)

OP posts:
Stompythedinosaur · 20/12/2020 02:29

The definition of a continuous cough from the NHS website is 3 episodes of coughing in 24 hours. Most coughs would reach that bar. I think you need a test.

BashfulClam · 20/12/2020 02:37

Brilliant so looks like I’m driving to a testing centre tomorrow and isolating (I still need some shopping for fresh things like bread etc)

OP posts:
kleew1 · 20/12/2020 02:45

You need to book your test online OP. I went to the Airport for one too and its absolutely fine. Hope you're okay.

bebarkered · 20/12/2020 02:46

Please please please go for the test OP. You need to know. What if you have it and pass it on to someone else? You don't want to do that. Get tested, you'll feel good that you've done your bit for mankind X

dontgobaconmyheart · 20/12/2020 02:51

The point of the covid test is to ascertain if you do have covid OP, getting tested is absolutely what you should be doing. It's inconvenient but I can't see the issue other than that you are having to do what literally everyone else in the country is having to do or had done.

You should be self isolating as of the moment you developed suspiciois symptoms so will have to get someone do drop off food, order takeaway for a couple of days and make do until you get your test result. It should be back in 48 hours so again, can't see the huge problem or drama.

You also need to go online and book your test as far as I'm aware you can't just turn up at the drive in swan centre, they need your details registered beforehand. Hoping for a negative result for you.

perditaplum · 20/12/2020 03:00

I'd test but there is a weird bug going round, we've had a week of feeling dizzy, not at all like eating, horrendous cough, headache, sore throat and nausea with a temperature. Tested negative.

Homemadearmy · 20/12/2020 04:11

Op my daughter had similar symptoms to you. No cough. She tested positive. Cough never developed sense of smell only went on day 6

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 20/12/2020 08:26

The only symptom I had at the point of testing positive was a very slight tickly cough.
Get tested OP, I hope it’s negative for you (or positive if you’d rather not see your MIL Wink )
