@shamus2020 depends where you live. We are rural and have one small tesco with only food. Doesn’t sell anything you could give as gifts apart from booze and chocolates.
We rely a lot on Amazon sadly since lockdown as its a 2hr round trip in to Corona central (Leicester) to do proper shops.

Allispretty · 19/12/2020 18:16

Amazon will be your best bet op or Argos? I'm sure you can still click/collect at sainsburys

flipapoo · 19/12/2020 18:16

Lots of people normally leave London so they will either be in the shops tmw or deliveroo will be busy!

KenAdams · 19/12/2020 18:24

Amazon, supermarkets, Argos collection in Sainsburys. Go and order everything now though, don't leave it.

Chanandlerbong01 · 19/12/2020 18:25

*If you've left it this late, this year of all years, you've got noone but yourself to blame.

It's not surprise that christmas is coming. There have been 12 paydays since the last one!*

That doesn’t mean money can stretch, my wages just don’t cover it. I wanted to do my Christmas shopping last month when I got a small bonus but an unexpected bill took it all. I don’t get paid now until Monday so I don’t have anything at all. Just because you are possibly in a better financial position please don’t judge others because they aren’t.

ohtheholidays · 19/12/2020 18:33

BaublesTolt You should be able to get stocking fillers from local supermarkets.

Alot of Primarks are staying open until 10 tonight if that's any help and there's places like amazon and argos you can get deliverys from, not the same as being able to to into actual shops to do your Christmas shopping I know.

We've just been plunged into tier 4 as well which means we won't get to spend Christmas with 2 of our adult sons(young adults)and it'll be the first time of not seeing all 5 of our DC at Christmas and I am dreading it.

McWeedie · 19/12/2020 18:38

If you order from John Lewis you can click and collect in Waitrose. Takes 2 days.

Preparefortheflaming · 19/12/2020 18:40

Get on Amazon. I’ve done every bit online this year. Not stepped in a shop since March!

Helmetbymidnight · 19/12/2020 18:40

I always leave it til the last minute.

It never fails.

Umm. Shit.

FindHungrySamurai · 19/12/2020 18:43

Argos collection in Sainsbury’s and John Lewis collection in Waitrose should sort you out for most things (if you have a Waitrose of course).

I wouldn’t want to rely too much on the post this week TBH - click and collect should be more reliable.

If the rules are like November then a lot of non-essential shops will have click and collect counters open in their doorway, our local bookshop for example.

newwnamme · 19/12/2020 18:43

I'm only in a better position because I save all year. There is no way my spare money from one pay check would cover our christmas expenses. Theres nothing dickish about it. Planning ahead and preparation cost nothing.

FindHungrySamurai · 19/12/2020 18:45

For example if I order from JL now I can collect at Waitrose at 3pm Monday. Loads of time yet.

Helmetbymidnight · 19/12/2020 18:47

thats the spirit, samurai!

tinselfest · 19/12/2020 18:48

@Toddlerteaplease

I wonders about the extra pressure caused by people now having to food shop when they weren't planning to.
Yes, but there will also be less pressure from those who were catering for visitors and now can't.
Joeblack066 · 19/12/2020 19:03

@newwnamme

And some people need every one of those to pay for Christmas, however frugal or good they are at budgeting. Don’t be so judgemental.

Well arent you smug.
Some people cant afford to save, dont have any spare cash, live hand to mouth every month, have an unexpected debt that wipes out the little bit of saving they have.

This was me in 2018. I left an abusive relationship and had rent arrears because of his financial abuse etc. I got paid on the 23rd dec and that bought my kids presents.
I'm in a position where I am able to save this year and as a result christmas is done but I know just how fortunate I am and how difficult and heartbroken others are now.

Because I'm not a dick

Bubblemonkey · 19/12/2020 19:13

Amazon?

Eviebeans · 19/12/2020 19:17

I'm guessing that quite a lot of people me included will have left the Christmas shopping (food) til the last minute cos of uncertainty re plans. Had a feeling that things would change with restrictions . Have however got lots of Christmas presents for my 4 grandchildren and secret santa presents for the adults - but we've just been put into tier 4 so won't be seeing any of them 😥

That’s a bit of a shity comment, some people might not have money. Maybe living from one wage packet to another. Not everyone’s got an endless supply of money.

TwoIsQuiteEnoughThankYou · 19/12/2020 19:25

Fuck off

Smug twat. No idea what it’s like to be waiting for that payday, busy, working every hour, preoccupied with other things.

I despair at Mumsnet at times I really do.

ButterflyBitch · 19/12/2020 20:11

Yep my sister has gone into tier 4 and I called her about 40 mins after the news and she was panic buying her husbands Xmas present! She said it’s gone mad and everyone else had the same idea. Shit situation for everyone. Really hope you get something sorted op. Don’t think anyone was expecting this. Sad

Caramel81 · 19/12/2020 20:13

Amazon will be doing daily deliveries up until Xmas eve

livefornaps · 19/12/2020 20:13

This year - of all years -does it even fucking matter?!

Honey, I wouldn't even try!! Don't feel bad!! Don't try and fudge together some supermarmket stuff that honestly, are people going to want that? Just say, yo, hands up, this year has been a shit show to the end. Who cares?! We're all lucky to be alive. Pour yourself a gin and forget about it

ButterflyBitch · 19/12/2020 20:14

@Persipan

I on the other hand have a house full of presents for people it now appears I won't be seeing, but very little food (well, very little festive food anyway; the Brexit cupboard is pretty healthy) since I wasn't expecting to be here. Sigh. Looks like it'll be just me and the baby, most likely, and to be honest cooking anything complicated around him is a bit hit and miss, so I may be heading for a rather toast-heavy Christmas...
Me too. I’m so upset that I can’t see my mum or my sister as I’d planned. We need to get food for Xmas too. Was going to finish wrapping tonight but bugger all point now as don’t know when I’ll be able to see them again. Haven’t seen them since summer hols and it feels like far too long. My mums devastated that we can’t visit.
