Chestnut Purée

I ordered two packets of chestnut purée in my shop the other day and cannot for the life of me remember why. Does anyone have suggestions of what I can do with them? Xmas Smile

Mont Blanc?

Sweeten with sugar, mix with whipped cream, eat. Or put on a meringue and then eat.

Stir into a stew or casserole for added deliciousness.

Make this Yule Log and then die of happiness/diabetes:

We make this dish every Christmas and I thoroughly recommend. You can add a layer of cranberry sauce between the chestnut pate and pastry too, it's delicious!

Chocolate yule logs sometimes have a chestnut chocolate filling?

You can add it to stuffing.

grey12 · 19/12/2020 13:35

It is beautiful with red meat ;)

Sausage meat and chestnut stuffing?

Add it to yoghurt for breakfast or dessert?

Summertrees · 19/12/2020 15:13

Some cake recipes might include it.

Xerochrysum · 19/12/2020 15:15

Definitely Mont Blanc, just divine.

If it's the stuff that's sweetened and has vanilla added, you could just squeeze it directly into your mouth. I would.

orangenasturtium · 19/12/2020 15:25

I'm guessing you bought it to make stuffing, gravy or a cake as lots of Christmas recipes use chestnut puree. You know you will remember why you bought it as soon as you use it in another recipe and the shops will be sold out, right? Grin

If it's unsweetened, chestnut soup is delicious and creamy. I use a recipe I nicked from the back of a Merchant Gourmet packet, just chestnuts, stock and cream. Their website has some good recipes. I also use it in a chestnut and mushroom nut roast, which is my staple veggie option when I am cooking a roast.

Chestnut stuffing or sprout and chestnut soup. Both yummy. (Honest)

I love chestnuts so much. Stuffed squash with chestnuts and cranberries, buche de noel, chestnut gravy for turkey, savoury chestnut purée to accompany meat, include in your stuffing recipe.
