School Run Mums

Basically feeling a bit shit about the school run Mums.
They are the only mums I know as I'm not originally from this area, and work at home (self-employed) so don't get to meet other people.

I feel like every time I think I've made a close friend, I get back-stabbed some way. I do feel there is an element of fakeness in the women around here. They are lovely and generous to your face, so that you feel you can confide in them and be 'real', then they are quick to step on you to make themselves look good at your expense when there's an opportunity.

I now feel I have no real friends, who I can trust. It's like being at High School - lots of manipulative behaviour to control perceptions of others in the group.

Do you have any school run issues, that might make me feel a bit better, and not so alone?! (not interested in lovely tales about how many great friends you have at the moment!) Thank you!

It’s a mixed bag, really. There are definitely a few who I’d not turn my back on if they had a sharp knife to hand!

As soon as my dc were old enough to walk to the car by themselves- year 5, I stayed away from the playground.

Although I had met some lovely mums, I just couldn't be bothered with it all.

One of the reasons I now work full time is to avoid this shit.

Bluewavescrashing I have that feeling as well. Sometimes I wish I was a drop-and-run Mum. I also want to make friends in the area, but realising that true friends are hard to come by.

My kids started school mid year in a new area. I knew nobody and I'm a single parent. There are people you get on with snd some you won't - there has to be more of a connection than just your kids going to the same school, though that can sustain things for a while. I won't stay in touch with any of my daughter's year group mums when we leave at the end of the school year- several lovely people but we don't have enough of a friendship away from school to sustain it.
But my son's year group i do more with and those friendships are truer. But it takes a while- there are certainly mums who pretty much look through me unless they want something, which is the case with any random group of people thrown together.
