Present for someone bedbound?

That’s it really, does anybody have any ideas please? It’s for an elderly lady who is been feeling quite down since being bedridden and even more so in the current climate. Last time I got her a beanbag lap holder to put her iPad on. Any other bright ideas to cheer up her day? Many thanks

Audio books/books?

iamjackslaceratednipples · 18/12/2020 11:43

What's your budget? A subscription to lovely flowers? Fun jigsaws to do on the lap tray? Would she be into cross stitch or some other craft type kit? Sudoku / mindfulness colouring book and beautiful pens / grown up paint by numbers sort of thing.

Is she somebody close? For my 30th, my friend pledged me a year of letters / cards from her and her kids. She gave me a little writing set with SAEs and nice stationary to respond. She didn't follow through but I thought it was a lovely thought!

Yes to the jigsaws and cross stitch and everything above. A little hamper of these maybe with a puzzler, boiled sweets, bedsocks/slipper socks, bed jacket, hot water bottle, lip salve. Just little things even to cheer her up/pass some time.

Thanks guys, yes a relative, budget about £20 as already have another present (electric blanket).
She’s quite impatient so poss wouldn’t jigsaw. Have given word searches in past but not sure she did them.
She likes looking at her iPad although doesn’t completely understand it. Likes looking at wildlife in her garden, she feeds the birds (via her husband) and in the summer I got her a bee hotel to go on the wall. She likes TV and phone conversations.
She’s hard to please but I like to give things that are truly useful to that person. It’s a bit of a challenge!

What does she wear in bed? Perhaps new pyjamas or casual clothes that are comfortable.

CMOTDibbler · 18/12/2020 12:04

If you have the budget, how about a Readly subscription - there are so many magazines on there on all sorts of subjects which is perfect to dip in and out of.

An Alexa dot and a couple of Alexa plugs so that she can turn things on and off from bed?

A beautiful blanket to go on her bed

A subscription to letter box flowers

Nice angora or mohair bedsocks (though only if someone will wash them carefully)

A bird feeder which sticks on the outside of her window

AdditionalCharacter · 18/12/2020 12:10

A bird feeder she can stick to her window?

RainbowRaine · 18/12/2020 12:15

A camera pointing outside that plays on an iPad so she can still watch the birds even from bed

I am not an old lady but am on the lookout for a bed jacket!! My dgm always wore one to read!! I want one for watching TV!!

RIZZ0 · 18/12/2020 12:22

Thanks everyone, there’s quite a few good ideas here so I’m going to go and investigate some of them now.
I did buy her a nice velvety looking bed jacket last year for Christmas (Amazon do them) but she didn’t like it so I had to send it back and exchange for a velour tracksuit which she quite liked!

Second the window bird feeder idea. We got one for the kids and it's been a joy to watch over the winter. I love seeing the birds come in and out and jostle for power!

crankysaurus · 18/12/2020 12:28

I'm currently temporarily bed bound, a window bird feeder sounds ace but also I'm finding it very quiet (while my DH is working) and would love a small portable digital radio.

RIZZ0 · 18/12/2020 12:36

Hope you’re better soon Cranky

Most of what I’ve got my mum would probably work. Let’s see

A book on the history of the area she grew up in
Local see through poncy soap
Hand made wooden soap dish from Etsy
Earrings from Etsy
Next in series of crime series that she likes

There was something else. Can’t remember.

crankysaurus · 18/12/2020 12:45

Thanks, mending right so just a matter of time. Actually, BiscuitDrama's suggestion of nice soap would be lovely too, can't shower at the moment so something lovely for a bed / sink wash is a good idea.
