Any paramedics about?

I’m thinking of changing career and would love to study to become a paramedic.

The issue I have here is that I’ve heard paramedics work 12 hour days? Is this the only shift pattern available to paramedics?

I’m single and have a dog I have no one who could look after her while I’m working so the 12 hour days could be the thing that stops me doing this (when working I’m sure I could afford a dog walker but definitely not as a student with a mortgage)

I'm not a paramedic but DBro is, he works 12h shifts 3/4 days a week then gets 3/4 days off in a row usually.

In practise the shifts often end up being 13/14h long because if you get called out when you've been on shift for 11.5h you obviously still have to go.

How about using borrow my doggy? I think people walk your dog for free as they have no dog of their own. Or you could maybe find a local teen who loves dogs but isn't allowed one of their own?

Yes its 12 hours, I dont know any that have managed to get that reduced. Tbh it's not even 12 hours- if you get a job that's complicated as your last call then it can easily be 14-15 hours.

That’s the other thing that worries me, the extended shifts which obviously I would go to and wouldn’t expect to clock off on time at all, but it’s more for the sake of my dog i’d worry.

I didn’t think of borrow my doggy I don’t know if it exists around here, I’ll look in to it, are the dog “borrowers” checked?
