Daft Christmas thing I've accidentally started

Has anyone else done something for Christmas that's ended up being a bit daft (light hearted totally!)
My in-laws always used to buy plastic tat for the my children (their only grandchildren) so I politely suggested they probably had enough, we didn't have the space etc and we could provide a list of things they might like to buy - so far so good Smile
this has over a few years now transformed into - we buy for the children, in-laws give us the money (so far so sensible) BUT now we give the presents to in-laws, they wrap them and bring them on Xmas day - it's only struck me in Covid times how ridiculous this is Grin
We've got presents upstairs that now need to be dropped with my in-laws in a socially distanced way, then they will wrap them and drop them back on Xmas morning in a socially distanced way - our children are teenagers - they are very well aware this is what happens (and find it highly amusing when granddad is clearly surprised by what's he's 'chosen' )

Ha that's quite funny... it's bonkers! But I guess they get to be involved and that's nice 🙂

Yes! We do something similar with wrapping and handing over gifts but I actually said we won't do it this year because of COVID. Everyone is fine about it.

What I have started...

A really dated Xmas book by Enid blyton that is 70 years old and my mum had it as a child. We still read pages of it in December leading up to Xmas. My children are teenagers.

You can imagine the conversations each year when we realise this book is utterly ridiculous. But every December this battered old tome comes out Hmm

I've thought of another.... New pj's for Xmas eve
Cute when they were tiny - expensive now they're fully grown Grin

@cheesecrack what’s the book?!

@sultanasofping good point on the PJs - I was thinking of starting this with my baby but you’ve given me good for thought Grin

cheesecrack · 19/12/2020 22:12

'Father Christmas and Belinda'. Don't judge me. A golliwog is given as a gift.

We did the pyjamas thing too. This year I got wise and gave them on Dec 1st to allow more time to use them. Also less Christmas more winter.

It's from 1951 Shock

@sultanasofping We do the same, but at least there’s no duplication of presents & I know DC will like everything they get.

And I love your username (I wonder if @WheresMeChristmasJumper is taken, if not I may change to that).

Cheesecrack, I've read recently that it's better to say simply 'Golly'.
Not trying to be difficult, just passing it on.

Love the idea of this. Mine is probably home made chocolates. I do candied peel dipped in chocolate, chocolate coated nuts and Rocky road. I've struggled to find the get up and go this year, but know it will be missed.
