How do you cure phone addiction?

Just that really.

I'm currently on maternity leave and I'm ashamed to admit that on a bad day I can spend 6 to 7 hours a day on my phone.

I would suggest

Deleting all the apps you can
Leaving your phone in other rooms / at homes
You can set limits on how long you can spend on certain apps

If it's that bad, get rid of your smart phone

Don't have a smart phone! I've an old fashioned analogue phone. I can text and call on it and that's about it. Half the time I forget where it is. I've never had a smart phone (I'm in my 40s) so have never c=become reliant on one.

I wouldn't beat yourself up about it. It's hardly normal times, when you go back to work or when covid restrictions ease you'll naturally find yourself spending less time on it.

Go out without your phone for a start.

What else is their to do?

If your babies needs are being met, your not avoiding other tasks that need to be done. Then what harm is it?

Hi op I’m the same here although I’m back to work this week which I yhink it’ll help a lot. Im dishusted with myself really and decided to take action to reduce my use. One of the things I’ve done is come off facebook and ive come out of my busiest whatsapp groups and deleted them, which has helped a little. Im a bugger for checking bbc news though and checking emails and I do spend a bit of time on mumsnet which are things to work on. You have my sympathy though its really difficult x

Yorkshiredolls · 16/12/2020 07:43

Oh also, my husband said theres a documentary on netflix about tech and social media manipulation which I havent watched it yet but I will after I've managed to reduce my use for a couple if weeks to reinforce what I’m doing. I think if I watch it without having tried first it’ll take make me feel worse

ScalpHelp · 16/12/2020 07:47

I don’t see a problem with this either, my phone is a myriad of different devices combined. Being on it all day doesn’t necessarily mean mindlessly scrolling through social media or playing games or whatever.

It’s essentially a laptop replacement, so anything I need to do on there I can complete on my phone, including work related tasks or (previously) uni submissions. I can control the lighting of my house, my speakers, the printer etc directly from my phone. The list is endless.

Put your phone in a drawer away from arms reach for several hours if the day.

Pick up a book by your favourite author instead and escape your phone world.
