Boxing Day brunch

Desperately need ideas for a Boxing Day brunch. Will be four adults and three children. Will be doing buffet in the evening so want something substantial to last us till the evening. Ideally it would be something I could more or less prep ahead and stick in the slow cooker or oven.

Any fool proof recipes or recipes that have gone down well in your experience would be gratefully received

I really like shakshuka as a brunch dish. Mostly made in advance, just add eggs last minute. Serve with home made bread ( or shop bought part baked sourdough) with wilted spinach and garlicky mushrooms.

Thank you! Bumping for some more ideas!

I’d do ham (probably cold and cooked in advance) with cauli cheese Xmas Smile

We will definitely have some ham on the go @mull, but prob be as part of dinner.

Was thinking about some type of croissant bake but I'm rubbish at this kind of thing!

Is this a serious question?Shock

The answer is, of course, bubble & squeak. With leftover turkey and pigs in blankets.

Fresh baked pastries (the ones you cook from the freezer)
Sausage rolls (also cook in the oven at the same time)
Scrambled eggs
Bagels, soft cheese and smoked salmon
Fresh fruit and juice
Cheese platter leftovers and crusty bread.
Only real cooking the eggs, everything else is arranging things in plates

Came on here to say exactly this. Bubble and squeak. Ideally turkey reheated in the gravy as a sort of stew. Leftover stuffing and pigs in blankets.

Panettone bread pudding

This is Britain. Just have cold turkey (or whichever meat or vegetarian alternative you had on Christmas Day) with some veg and salad.

Let's stop this brunch thing, we are not the 51st state. Call it lunch or dinner.

Restlessinthenorth · 16/12/2020 08:28

I called it brunch because that's what it is. We will be eating in the space between breakfast and lunch, as per its definition the Cambridge English Dictionary.

For the more helpful posters, had though about cold meats/leftovers however MiL will be having x2 Xmas lunches (with us Xmas day and brother Boxing Day evening) so was looking for an alternative (I will be indulging in the leftovers at some point for sure though!)

Nigella’s Croque Monsieur Bake? A savoury bread & butter pudding which you make the night before and leave to soak in the fridge

@Notreallyawaitress that sounds lovely! Off to google...

I think brunch is quite difficult on Boxing Day. For example someone up thread suggested stew, which, in my mind would be really weird to eat any earlier than lunch.
For me, brunch screams eggs in some form. Or savoury pancakes, with a variety of filling.
