Coil dropped out? Warning trigger baby loss

I’ve had a coil in for 2 years and at the start of the first lockdown I had a massive bleed with what appeared to be a foetus in it. I brushed it off as I hadn’t been recently sexually active and thought it could have been decidual cast. I was incredibly stressed at the time due to working, homeschooling and the break down of my relationship so didn’t go to the doctors. I’ve just checked for my coil strings (I only did it a couple of time when I first got it) and they’re not there. Is it possible for me not to have noticed it falling out?

It is possible for it to have come out without you noticing. When I went to have my Mirena replaced after 5 years, they couldn’t find it. I had to be scanned and X-rayed but it had gone.

I think it could be possible yes. I'm so sorry OP, how are you coping? Did you go to the GP at the time?

user1471462428 · 15/12/2020 14:34

@Seeingadistance I thought they looked huge when I saw it online but when I’ve looked at the measurements it’s tiny. I need to go to the doctor I think.
@cactusdog I’m okay, I’m kicking myself I didn’t go to the doctors at the time, I was working on a covid ward and they didn’t want us going to other areas in the hospital so didn’t book a scan.
Can’t believe they come out without noticing because it hurt going in!

It's possible the strings have just tucked up into your cervix. It's more likely you'll feel them if you check when you have your period, as your cervix will be low and open

I’ve got my period now and still can’t find them@Hohofortherobbers. I’ve tried squatting and feeling too but no luck. My family planning says they are only seeing emergencies. I’m not sure this counts as one.

It should count as an emergency because it’s possible that the coil hasn’t fallen out but has instead perforated the wall of your uterus and is jaunting about your body somewhere. That’s why I had scans and X-rays to see if it could be found still within me, but in the wrong place.

My friend’s coil went awandering, and kept moving so they had her in theatre twice before they found and removed it surgically.

@Seeingadistance oh no I didn’t know that could happen, I’ll ring them back. Bloody thing needs to come out anyway as it was meant to help my endo and hasn’t made difference at all.

I got pregnant while I had the copper coil. It hadn’t come out, it had just moved position Confused
I had an early miscarriage and a few days later found the coil at the end of the bed!

It’s very possible your coil is still there.
Best of luck op

@OkPedro oh you poor thing that sounds awful. I keep wondering how I would have felt if it had been a baby. I would love another but not with my ex. It’s made me realise that.
