Any doctors or nurses? Advice about white blood cells in discharge please?

Sorry this might be a bit waffling so I apologise in advance.

Just been treated for a urine infection. Only symptoms were smelly urine and a slight dull ache so not typical. Took sample to local pharmacy and they tested, said it was a whopper of an infection. Gave me 3 days of antibiotics and asked to return when they were done to retest urine and make sure all good. Did so on Thursday and everything ok but pharmacist says to drop sample at attached Drs just to be on safe side. Drs surgery said it’ll go to the lab.

They’ve contacted me today and the frankly very terse nurse told me no sign of infection in urine however there’s vaginal secretions in sample and white blood cells present in that. Flat out told me it was either chlamydia or thrush. I said I’ve no symptoms of thrush. She was very insistent that I must have chlamydia then and should be tested. No asking if I was even sexually active.

This has upset me because a couple of years ago I was misdiagnosed with recurring UTIs when in fact it was a problem with my lower back. The same nurse told me the same thing then, that it must be chlamydia and was quite harsh about it. I dutifully went to my local GUM clinic and was tested. Everything came back clear. I’ve not been sexually active since.

Sorry that was a long and dull tale. My questions are this

  1. Is it normal to have the presence of some white blood cells in vaginal discharge (Google hasn’t been very clear)?
  1. Should I put a complaint in about this nurse who’s hell bent on diagnosing me with an STI?

If you got to the end of that without losing the will to live then thank you Smile.

I don’t really know how they could separate vaginal secretion white blood cells from urine white blood cells... surely once you’ve peed into a pot it’s all mixed together?

I’ve had it before when they insisted I must have chlamydia rather than a stubborn uti. I got the sti test done even though I knew I couldn’t have it then went back to them and got a longer course of antibiotics which cured it. I suppose you could have had a false negative last time so it might be worth getting tested anyway? It also means if you have future problems you can say you’ve already tested for that recently.

@Weblefleb That’s what I did the last time this happened to me but I was still in pain and seeking further treatment then. This time I’m absolutely fine and symptom free after the antibiotics. I’m sorry they were so insistent with you too. It’s awful to be told something when you know it’s categorically not the case.
