Particle accelerators

A bit of a random one but DS and I have decided we'd like to build a particle accelerator at home.

I just wondered if anyone had done it and had any good design sites or tips?

We've found some stem kits for them but we'd like to try without if we can.

Are you the parent who likes to build rockets with your 6 year old? Grin

Ok - here you go, you will need:

A Y-shaped stick.
Some elastic.
Small missiles -eg frozen peas.

Job done.

Magnets
Lots of magnets
But you need to be able to turn them on and off.

Put them in a circle. And go.

(I think it might be more complex than that)

I just accelerated some particles out of my arse

Here you go, OP.

All you need is the cathode ray tube from an old fashioned TV. Good luck! Grin

(And that, gentle MNetters, is why I am a theoretical physicist Wink).

Thanks! (Although finding an old tv might be a challenge in itself Grin)

I knew MN would come through for us!

And to PP, ha no, sadly I never built a rocket only a potato cannon.
