Anyone have a megaflo at home?

Our plumber thinks they are great.

We’re doing some work on our house next year and it’s a good time to rethink the plumbing.

We have a new ish boiler but hot water cylinder is very old and needs replacing. I understand that if we put in a megaflo we won’t need a hot water tank and we’ll get much better water pressure.

Any thoughts?

Megaflo is just a brand of unvented hot water cylinders so you will absolutely need a hot water cylinder but not a cold water tank.

I have an unvented cylinder and it’s a massive improvement on the previous hot water cylinder we had before.

We have a megaflo hyit water system but it does have a tank, its massive. Takes up most of the airing cupboard. We were told they were great by everyone we knew that had one.

Water pressure was rubbish when we moved in to the house. If the shower was running and another water device turned on elsewhere (washing machine, toilet flush, turning a tap on etc) then the shower turned to a drip. After about a year of putting up with it, 4 different plumbers out trying different things, it was the pressure reduction valve. Someone who knew what they were doing replaced it and lo and behold it's great. Always plenty of hot water, great pressure can have 2 showers running at once.

Lesson learned, even if you say clearly 'its a megaflow unvented hot water system', most plumbers will say that's fine I'll take a look, they look, scratch their head, drain the system, fill it back up again then leave. You really really need to get a specialist in unvented hot water systems who actually knows what they are talking about to look at it if it goes wrong.

The tank has to be quite big because they are so well insulated. Fantastic though.

We do. We did our house from scratch so new plumbing and bathrooms and the plumber suggested it. Absolutely brilliant. The tank is HUGE and so well insulated. It takes no time at all to heat it and as a family of 5 we can all shower, wash up and most of the time someone can have a bath on one tank. We've got 3 bathrooms and can have 3 showers running at once with ok pressure. Best bit is unlike our old house you don't get scalded when someone flushes the loo.

Interesting thank you.

We are a family of 5 too so use a lot of water.

We have a big airing cupboard plus space on the landing so we could easily fit it in.

We are a family of 5 and love our unvented cylinder.

We had one in a previous house. We liked it a lot. Echo what a pp said about needing someone who specialises in it.

We have one - it's great. We have the tank (and the boiler) in the garage, so it doesn't take up any space in the house and the (old) airing cupboard is now a brilliant storage cupboard.

With regards to having a plumber that knows what they are doing, we just have the guy who put it all in come service the boiler etc every year.
