Bloody roof

Need to rant
The scaffolders broke an original lead window, so I have a hole in the window. Haven’t heard any plan to get it fixed, it’s been 3 weeks
I have had 5 different leaks whilst it is supposed to be watertight
The leaks have damaged internal ceilings and walls, some of which are quite ornate and not easy to fix or decorate. One is dripping from a light fitting
In one room I have approximately 30 holes in the ceiling that will need to be filled and painted, in a room that has just been decorated
They have worked about 4 days in the last 3 weeks. I know they are guided by the weather, but I know they are doing other jobs and I think they could have done more here if they had organised it better.
I’m so sick of it
I can’t put any decorations outside, can’t even put up a wreath on the front door
My son wants to put his tree up in his room, but his ceiling looks like it’s about to fall down, but I’m waiting for the tiles to go on the roof before that gets fixed.

Is this level of disruption to be expected?
Anyone had a new roof recently?

And I’d expect him to come round if I’ve told him it’s leaking
And heavier rain forecast for this afternoon

We have scaffolding here currently too!

Scaffolding fellas were a bit flighty, but our project manager (builder/joiner) was well on top of them and they did all the work they were meant to do in a 3 day period. The weather has been clement here, thankfully.

What you described sounds dodgy as feck. Take lots of pictures of the broken lead window, surely they will cover the £££ costs??!?

Also, does your sons ceiling really seem close to falling down Shock

Do you have a project manager for whatever work you are getting down? Including a time frame?

I know that scaffolding is expensive, so our project manager has organised to do roof work first, then get rid of scaffolding and then do the lower down work at level they can reach by hand. Of course, your project might be totally different sort, just saying for comparison.

It’s just a new roof, it’s a big house, but straightforward enough.
The roofing company pay the scaffolders, so it’s up to them to chase it up. I spoke to the scaffolders boss 3 weeks ago. They’ll have to pay, but nothing has been done yet.
I don’t think it should be my job to ring around for a specialist.
My son is in the loft bedroom. Part of his ceiling is sloped. There was an old leak there, so plasterboard all damaged. It needs to be taken off and redecorated, I could take it all off, but then there is just the thin waterproof membrane. But if anymore water leaks through, it will collapse. It’s just plasterboard and plaster, nothing structural.

The holes in ceiling can’t be helped apparently, when they nail the boards it pushes the old nails down. They’ve said they will fill the holes and make good, but it’s just more hassle
The roof company guy seems really nice and responded well wen I’ve called him before, just not today. Sad

This is the plasterboard
They didn’t do this but they’ve made it worse, cos the temp roof membrane wasn’t waterproof.

Can I ask some questions (I own a scaffolding company)

Ooops dropped my phone!

  1. What's the scaffolding up for in the first place? Scaffolding ONLY provides access for other trades, they do now MEND anything at all

  2. you say the scaffolding is subcontracted. Therefore they will only answer to whomever they have the contract with, eg the roofing company. You have to go through whoever hired them to get things put right.

Bluebaubles · 13/12/2020 23:15

New roof
Not asking the scaffolders to mend anything?
Yes, the roofer is chasing them, but I’ve not heard anything
