How would you react in this situation?

6yo girl, long blonde hair.

Mum has a time consuming hobby which helps manage some mental health issues. Her DH supports this.

He has taken the little girl for a haircut today, while mum does her hobby.

Before he went he asked mum what he should ask for - just a trim.

Little girl has had a complete change of hairstyle and c. 6 inches cut off.

I'm just a bystander (online) but I was surprised by the reaction. What would have happened in your house?

I would probably 'wow! It is so short! Did you choose that dd' in a near hysterical cheery tone. If she did then fine, if not then have a private word with whoever forced the change (especially if she was upset). I may cry privately because it is a shock when something drastically alters your child's appearance - not proud to admit I sobbed a little alone when my 6 year old son got glasses because he just did not look like him in them at that point. But you remain jolly and compliment the child regardless of it all.

Similar happened to me, but they actually cut her hair without me knowing while I was at work.
I was not happy at all. I said so. No argument. But he never cut her hair again.

@Santaisironingwrappingpaper

My poor dc came back with this...
Looks fine to me. It will grow again.

I remember clearly wanting my hair cut short as a child. My mum spent ages checking I really wanted it cut and I said yes countless times. Once it was done I cried and cried and cried. So my reaction would very much depend on my child’s reaction. If she was happy then I’d be happy too.

If it was dd's idea or she was happy with his fuck up I wouldn't say anything. If he'd just fucked up and dd was upset I'd compliment it anyway and then clip a bald spot in his hair when he fell asleep.

Same as @farawayplanet. I can't bear how people are about little girls hair. It's the beginning of teaching a girl that her worth is in her looks.

And why did it being blonde even come into it? Oh no, not the long, blonde hair - her life is in ruins. 🤮

Wouldn't bat an eyelid if that was what DD wanted

My DSS had long, blonde curls at 4 (which were admittedly in his eyes) my DH suggested a trim, which mum agreed to, then SHAVED HIS HEAD. I was beside myself, thought his mum would be furious - I would have been. He looked like an entirely different child (DSS wasn't bothered either way and didn't seem to register the change). Mum barely seemed to notice - didn't even bat an eyelid. I was gobsmacked!

This.

The crucial thing missing from this is, does the little girl even care?!

If she's happy/not bothered then why is anyone giving this a moments thought.
