Can I use ricotta in any way as a topping for a pasta bake?

I bought it for something I didn't make and want to use it up. How could I make it into a lovely topping for a pasta bake? I also have cheddar and Parmesan. I don't want to make a cheese sauce. Any ideas? Thanks.

It's similar in texture to quark isn't it? I use quark as a lasagne topping (slimming world) so I imagine mixing with an egg and a pinch of nutmeg would make a good topping for pasta bake, but don't hold me to that!

I’ve used it for a topping for moussaka. Mix the ricotta with egg, perhaps some milk to loosen it slightly and put it over.

Looks like a sloppy mess but it’s lovely when baked.

Not sure if that would work with pasta bake.

Or could you make a spinach and ricotta pasta bake?

Some grated Parmesan on top would be good, I think.

I've mixed it with a little milk and some parmesan. It looks like a good consistency. I will also grate cheddar over the top for a triple cheese effect! The bake is a pasta bolognese one. That bit is already assembled.

I have more or less given up making white sauce for lasagne and use ricotta or mascarpone instead...just meat and pasta layers and use the ricotta or mascarpone with enough milk to make it just pourable, plus cheese, S&P, nutmeg, herbs, pour over the top and bingo! If you go too runny then add an egg and beat in well.
My lasagnes have never been better...much less sloppy, really much nicer to dish up!

There's a good ricotta and butternut squash pasta bake on Jamie Oliver's website. The ricotta is mixed into the sauce though, not a topping.

I was thinking of ricotta and spinach pancakes with a tomato sauce (which is on my menu plan for this week!)

The ricotta topping was delicious.
