Deconditioned body - should I try for a baby?

I was wondering if there was any Mums or Midwives etc out there who can offer me some advice please? I have a long term elbow injury that can take a couple of years to heal. I also have a coccyx problem (I got the elbow injury from repetitive strain doing exercises to help my coccyx). My physiotherapist has told me that my body is deconditioned and it has been deconditioned for a long time now due to all of these injuries. I have been wanting to try for a baby for a few years but have put it off because of all these problems. Is there anyone out there who has gone through pregnancy with a deconditioned (severe muscle weakness) body? I'm not sure how my body will cope going through pregnancy. I am 40 now so I need to get cracking if I want a baby!

The only thing that might concern me is the coccyx injury as that can be effected during vaginal birth. At 40 I wouldn't wait

I wouldn't wait at 40 either although I do agree with the coccyx injury might cause you sone problems.

Is there anything you can do to to build your body up? Has your Physiotherapist suggested anything?

Thank you so much for your advice, I really appreciate it. Yes my Physio has given me some exercises which I am working on (everything has to be built up gradually as it's easy for me to get another injury with the deconditioning). I'm hoping to be offered a C section with the history of my coccyx. Thank you ladies for your kind replies x

What does ‘defonditioned’ mean in this context? Because (I just googled!) it generally means having lost fitness or muscle tone due to inactivity - if it’s not something more serious than that I would crack on (coccyx injury dependent). I suspect a lot of women aren’t waiting until they’re at the peak of physical fitness before having a baby - it certainly wasn’t a concern of mine!

I've had a coccyx injury as a child. But midwives and doctor said it shouldn't affect vaginal birth, and I did have a try vaginal birth, but ended up with c section

I imagine my body was “deconditioned”, when I was pregnant except I’d never been in condition. Grin

How inactive are you, can you walk about and so on? Can you do gentle yoga.

I imagine there and many women who are unfit who get pregnant.

I had/have various muscular skeletal issues and have had 2 DCs at 36 and 39. I am very unfit as a result of injuries and to be honest it has sometimes been a struggle I had bad PGP in both pregnancies- from 9 weeks the second time around.

I really struggled with manhandling the kid’s sometimes- lifting newborns with hands that were numb with carpal tunnel and holding them in a good breastfeeding position caused me a lot of shoulder/ back issues.

I wouldn’t say don’t do it ( lots of unfit people get pregnant) but bear in mind it’s not just the pregancy and birth. But at least 2 years of carrying and lifting the child afterwards.

Thank you so much ladies for this valuable information and for taking the time to message me, much appreciated. Yes I can walk about and so on - the deconditioning means that I have lost a lot of muscle but this is reversible over time with strengthening exercises. So I'm working on that but keep pulling muscles because they're so weak! This advice has helped me so much, thank you x
