Help! Please. I have 2 sons, 14 and 18. This post will seem so trivial considering the 'real' problems some parents and kids have. Overall we are happy normal family. However, my 14 year old eats sweets, chocolates and crisps etc like he is possessed. He is fit, slim, strong, sporty and eats most foods and generally polishes off everything I cook. I have never restricted food and am pretty relaxed about sweets - but there is a limit. My dinners are ad-lib, always plenty, hearty meals. However, my son has a phobia of the dentist and he has been told he must cut back on sweet things and sugar. He cleans his teeth properly and they are not in a bad way but the dentist said he needs to cut back. My son is generally respectful but I know he's eating a lot of stuff he shouldn't. I've showed him pictures of wrotten teeth etc and explained to him the consequences of what he is doing. To put it into context he is having about a litre of fruit juice a day, several bars of chocolate, bags of crisps, biscuits, cakes etc, whatever he can get his hands on and its been going on for years but is worse now. He does drink water and plenty of fruit and veg. Should I just stop worrying?

The only thing just can suggest is that he wast the sweet stuff directly after a meal. That way he will have time in between meals where the acid isn't attacking his teeth.

This is advice that we received from our dentist. Sweet good little and often is especially bad for teeth. Much better to have it once after a meal. Is this doable?

I have a very sweet tooth but have started having sugar free sweets and gum so try to make it subside.
