Help with loose leaf tea?

Poppinjay · 10/12/2020 21:50

DD2(17) is the only tea drinker in our house. DD1 would like to by her a tea strainer/infuser (not sure which is better) and some loose leaf teas to try.

So far DD2 has only tried English Breakfast Tea.

Should I buy a selection from Whittards or is there somewhere better I could buy (online) a selection of nice loose leaf teas?

I get mine from trueteacompany.co.uk/ they're really good teas and you can order small samples which are great for trying out new flavours

Fortnum & Mason teas are lovely. Tea Pigs are also nice. I have a tea pot with a removable strainer and a couple of mini ones that you can put in a cup. I have one from F&M and a hippo one where it looks like it’s peering over the top of the cup!

I swear by stubb teapot and sainsburys selection of loose leaf

The metal basket strainers that hang in your cup are best IMO

This woman’s tea is fantastic

I recommend the tropical green tea

Bird and blend are lovely

I knew I could count on MNers!

Should I buy her a small teapot? Does it make a difference?

Just to let you know that I use my French press/cafetière to make my loose leaf tea Smile and I get tea pigs from amazon!

Gingaaarghpussy · 10/12/2020 23:22

I have a teapot with a strainer in it. Bodum do a teapot with strainer in as well.

HelloDoris · 11/12/2020 00:54

Bird and Blend for the win! Even better if you live near one of their stores, you can go and see ALL the flavours they have.

BlackForestCake · 11/12/2020 01:13

Yes, if you’re using loose leaf tea you need a teapot.

HermosaMain · 11/12/2020 01:34

How much tea do you need for a cup? The ebay seller linked sells 5g bags, is this just one cup as a sample? Or is it more like 2 or 3?

This is my type of thread!

For loose tea I like the Jeeves and Jericho breakfast blend:

And for one person only I quite like this little gadget, the Ingenuitea, which makes about a mug and a half.

I do have a nice glass teapot with a strainer from Whittard's too.

Zhx3 · 11/12/2020 01:49

Updated model of the Ingenuitea:

I love Nilgiri tea. I used to buy the teabags from Suma but can't get them anywhere now..
The loose tea is too expensive!

Crapbuttrue · 11/12/2020 04:57

Brew Tea Co have a range of teas and a nice glass teapot.

I prefer pots to a single mug strainer thing. I like the whole palaver of it. Even have a teeny milk jug I bought from a catering supply shop as the teapot does more than a mug and I need extra milk.

PsychoSyd · 11/12/2020 06:33

If you get her a tea pot, don't forget the tea cosy!

Poppinjay · 11/12/2020 22:44

So many lovely ideas!

If you get her a tea pot, don't forget the tea cosy!

I've just learned to crochet and made DD1 a soap bag. Maybe I can make a tea cosy for DD2 Grin
