If ur on a limited diet. What do u do.

I have intolerance to wheat and dairy ... I have ibs. And I have a problem with my bladder that restricts 90% of the foods out there. Certain foods inflame my muscles and I feel very swollen the next day.

My doctors answer is just find foods to eat. Which is unhelpful at best.

My diet consists of fish fingers , sausages , eggs , banana , gluten free cookies , lentil crisps and the occasional veg.

It is very unhealthy. I am 45. I know that my diet is not healthy and there are going to be consequences because of this.

If you have a limited diet like I do. Ibs etc .... how do u try and stay healthy on the inside. Vitamins? Etc. I worry about what will happen to my cholesterol level it my heart.

My doctor is no help on this. I have tried to see another but that’s not happening at the moment. Any advice ?

Could you try eating unprocessed versions of what you're currently having? So pork and fish? What veg do you eat?

Paranoidmarvin · 10/12/2020 19:57

I eat what I can eat. The sausages as an example are the heathiest I can eat. Tried so many other things and something always kicks me back.

Tried making my own stuff. But something always sets me off. I have had to give up jobs because of food. This food arrangement has been nearly five years of testing and pain and testing different things. I can’t change it or add to it.

As an example. Tried just plain fish and my ibs kicked off. It’s a really fine balance

I eat carrots and swede. I can only have these a few times a week.

I used to be able to eat potato. But I can’t anymore. Same as baked beans. Used to be able to eat Tesco own .... then a month ago my bladder decided it didn’t like them anymore.

I swear I’m going to end up just eating dust

Have you done the ilimination diet?

I’m dairy, soya, coconut and blueberry free plus avoiding eggs in larger quantities than mayonnaise due to my daughter’s allergies. My husband doesn’t eat meat, I have to be careful about how much fat I eat since I’ve had my gall bladder removed and the 4 year old is fussy so I hate meal planning.

*elimination

Paranoidmarvin · 10/12/2020 20:10

I have done every elimination diet and tried every medication etc etc there is out there.

Sorry it’s so difficult for you.

Are you taking/appropriate vitamin and mineral supplements. Have you been referred to a dietitian?

Itmaybeus · 10/12/2020 20:17

I have a dc who has a limited diet and also has top up feeds via a tube into his stomach (obviously last resort).
Have you tried an elimination diet - basically we started off with just rice and chicken, then added in vegetables, then fruit and so on dairy and gluten were added last (would need to consultant a dietitian). Before dc went on the tube feed we used specialist milkshakes (prescribed by hospital) which gave dc lots of nutrients.
I think if your diets as limited as you say you need a dietitian to devise a meal plan and also look at the need for supplements.

Paranoidmarvin · 10/12/2020 20:39

My doctor said a dietician wouldn’t be able to help as I am so limited. I do get that. As I eat what I can eat. I can’t change it no matter what anyone says.

I have b12 injections every 12 weeks. And I take two vitamin d tablets every morning.
Was wondering if a multi vitamin tablet would help.

You definitely need to see a dietitian about vitamin abs mineral supplements. Supplements are normally for support and diet but you need beyond this.

How long have you been dairy free and not getting enough calcium?

justanotherneighinparadise · 10/12/2020 20:48

Have a look at the carnivore diet.

adropnotabit · 10/12/2020 20:53

Yes a dietician absolutely be able to help, that's a cop out response from your doctor. Please make a booking and perhaps seek one out that specialises in food intolerances and FODMAP.

Paranoidmarvin · 10/12/2020 21:24

@adropnotabit I tried to see someone about fodmap and help etc. But no one knows about my bladder problems. The problem I found was they wanted me to change what I was eating for my stomach and it was then having a negative effect on my bladder.
I have searched for someone who knows about it all but I have yet to find someone.

It is not something that is widely known about. I can’t change one without impacting the other.

I have tried a few different supplements. And my bladder normally kicks in a few days later to say that it doesn’t like it. And then I’m back to pain and not being able to leave the bathroom.
