Advice on making the most of a wet day out!

We have booked our only Christmassy type activity for Sunday- Farm park with Christmas themed activities. All outside.

It’s forecast to rain all day! I’m upset to be honest as it’s the only nice thing we’ve done in ages with my 4 and 1 year olds and it’s going to be really hard work. Kids have got waterproof trousers and coats, 1 year old will absolutely not wear a hat so is going to have to stay in the pushchair most of the day.

Any tips for making the best of it please?

Do you have waterproof trousers, coat and waterproof shoes?

Clearasmuddypuddles · 10/12/2020 13:04

Kids do! I’ve got coat and wellies for me but not waterproof trousers.

Massive golf umbrella that you can all get under, if you have one or can borrow one?
I'm sure the farm will have some undercover areas, an open barn maybe, so you can shelter if you get too fed up.

Fingers crossed the forecast is wrong.

Honestly, the kids will not care. I took my three out for just a normal walk over half term. They came back soaked but had the best time wading through puddles etc.

Will the little one wear anything on her head? My DC3 wasn’t keen but would put the hood up in his coat if the rain was bad. He also got a Thomas the Tank Engine hat last Christmas and it’s his pride and joy but still the only hat he’ll wear. If none of that works, just use an umbrella to get them out of the buggy for a bit.

And make sure you have a set of warm dry clothes in the car to change into for the journey home.

It's likely the kids will be less bothered than the adults. Try your best to ignore the rain completely so they don't pick up that your disappointed and get on with it as best you can. Make sure everyone is wrapped up and as waterproof as possible. Do you think you could persuade the little one to wear a Santa hat?? Have a flask of hot chocolate, blankets and a complete change of clothes for when you get back in the car.

Thanks everyone! Will definitely take spare clothes and blankets for car.

Little one is 20 months and detests anything on her hat. Screams if I put a hat on her or put her hood up. Will have to just stick to hat or pushchair and see how we go.

My kids had the best day this year in the pouring rain!
It's the one day out they remember because of the 'wicked big puddles' I literally just let them jump and jump to their hearts content. They thought it was great!
(4 & 6).
Spare clothes, towels and a warm flask for you! Good luck Grin

Some bin bags for the boot to dump wet shoes and clothes on .

If there isn't a cafe you can get takeaway hot drinks from at the farm then take a thermos of hot chocolate and some plastic cups so you can all have a warm drink.

A couple of small towels and a change of clothes in a cool bag with a hot water bottle will get lovely and toasty warm, great for getting dry before travelling home.

If toddler won't wear a hat or hood then so be it, they'll get wet but that's not the end of the world. They'll both have lots of fun jumping in puddles, just make sure you have dry socks to change into for the way home, puddle jumping usually means water splashing over the top of wellies.
