Help - child been sick

Can't work out quickly where to post this, sorry.

Terrible emetophobia, DS been sick twice, 2 bed changes.
Hit me with your tips for ease of dealing with it - towels, bedding, wipes, bowls etc.

DS is 2.5 and this is the first time I've dealt with this - aaaaagh.

Thanks :)

I sympathise. Emetophobia is awful! I used to get my children to v into a towel so I could just fold it over and not look at it, and then chuck it in the washing machine. Even better I got my DH to deal with it all if he was around!

Wash your hands and use a bleach spray for surfaces. I never caught a bug off a sick child.

No advice as I don't have kids but emetophobia is actually one of the reasons why. It's my biggest fear. Hopefully this will be a short lived bug. Have a hand hold.

It's horrendous! I put towels down but it still managed to go through to the mattress protector.
I've just discovered it's not necessarily the actual sick that's the problem, it's the sound. I've cleared it up ok, but the sound of it had me retching.
So DS is downstairs with DH on the sofa and I'm panicking upstairs.

Thanks for the hand hold, I feel like I need it!

Well the one silver lining to COVID is you'll no doubt have plenty of masks, gloves, and hand san in your house and your child will be familiar to them all. I'd don a mask and gloves to sit with them, and add ear plugs if you have any if the retching sound also gets to you. Supply a bucket and plenty of old towels you can bin straight away. My worse ever sickness night with my DC was when they sat up in my bed and projectile vomited all over the dog, who then started eating it! My honest reaction was to run out of the room shaking and burst into tears, and then felt horrifically guilty. So you're doing amazingly well and should feel very proud of yourself with pushing on through your fear OP! . Good luck and I hope the bug passes soon.

Keep calm, you can do this! I’m the same. I repeat ‘it’ll be over soon’ to myself

Put a towel on the pillow and a towel on the duvet, and have a bowl either in the bed or next to.
Spray disinfectant, plastic bag, wipes, kitchen roll and washing basket nearby. Gloves if you need them.

Vomit on the towel or sheets - if you can face it - scrape them off into the the toilet first. Then put in basket ready for washing.

Some on here layer bedsheets- so protector, bedsheet, protector, bedsheet etc. So if it goes on the bed you don't have to faff about in the night remaking it properly. It's a great idea but I'm not organised enough.

I come out in sympathy gagging whenever mine are ill, the noise, smell and sight isn't pleasant, but only breathing through my mouth helps.

Top tip for future, if you have a messy vomiter (like eldest DD) and a neat vomiter (like DD2) never put the messy one on the top bunk of bunk beds. That's the voice of experience!

Towels/old blankets everywhere! Later them on top of the duvet so you can peel a layer off and wash.
Put one on the floor under the sick bucket.
Once child has been sick, one of us was in charge of said child (me!) and ex-OH would do all the cleaning. I would just sit child in bottom of shower for a while so everything could get clean and keep them out of the way.

Thanks all - he's running round like a loon now so is obviously feeling better!

I have all of the supplies ready now, just in case...
