How much does it cost you to fill your car up?

I've been out the UK for a couple of years but planning on moving back in the new year. I've no idea what car I'm going to buy yet but the cost of petrol frights me!

Would you mind sharing what car you drive a d roughly how much it costs to fill it? I need some sort of reality check and need to think about insurance too.

Audi A3 costs about £50 for a tank of petrol

sticksticks · 10/12/2020 03:19

Small Hyundai. £30. 300 miles between fill up which is when I'm on quarter of a tank. Zero road tax.

Sorry, just noticed my typo - frightens!

Go electric if you can!

adropnotabit · 10/12/2020 04:16

Petrol and diesel car sales will be banned from 2030. I hope other countries follow!

wellthatsunusual · 10/12/2020 04:17

We have two medium sized cars. One costs about £50 to fill fully, the other has a much bigger tank and costs maybe £65.

RayOfSunshine2013 · 10/12/2020 04:19

Audi q3 - approx 70 to fill up

PinGwyn · 10/12/2020 04:19

We've a medium diesel car - takes about £55 from completely empty.

Mintjulia · 10/12/2020 04:20

It's been such a long time since I went anywhere I had to think Grin

£50 for a 1.9 litre diesel which does about 700 miles.

radioband · 10/12/2020 05:02

£35-£40 1.2 Juke. Gives me approx 300miles

RosieLemonade · 10/12/2020 06:17

Corsa £45
My husband has a hybrid Rav and while it costs more to fill up it lasts forever.

Bearlyclearly · 10/12/2020 06:32

Nissan Qashqai 1.6 litre engine costs around £50 and gets 400 miles

JacobReesMogadishu · 10/12/2020 06:32

You need to think about mpg not cost to fill. My Astra is cheaper to fill than my focus but the Astra has a smaller tank so can’t get as much in. The focus is more expensive to fill but has better mpg. My polo is even cheaper to fill but probably has the worst mpg out the 3 cars.

tonyunclejohnny · 10/12/2020 06:35

Mercedes A class £55 from
Empty and guzzles petrol

Ford KA £30 from empty and lasts forever, also low road tax and insurance!

Bluntness100 · 10/12/2020 06:37

Mercedes ml350, about 100. It’s got a large tank.

I think you’re asking York wrong question. You want to know about fuel efficiency I think ? Cars have different tank sizes. The cost to fill it is related to the size of the tank. And depending on the fuel efficiency will tell how long that tank lasts.

NastyBlouse · 10/12/2020 06:42

Nissan Murano, about £120 (I put V-Power in it). But then I don’t use it for commuting, even outside covid times, so the tank lasts for weeks. Months, this year — I think I last filled it up in September. Insurance is really cheap because no one knows what it is. People go, ‘That’s a big Qashqai.’

Leafyhouse · 10/12/2020 06:45

£110 per tank. Porsche Cayenne. 4.5 litre engine, 19 miles per gallon (12 if you hammer it). However our other car is only £45 per tank, 41mpg. And a scooter runs on £5 for a week. It really does vary OP, you takes your choice.

PawPawNoodle · 10/12/2020 06:47

Golf GTI 2.0 engine, about £50, goes about 400 miles

wendz86 · 10/12/2020 06:49

Ford Focus 1.8 diesel . Prob around £55 to fill up .

We’ll see!!
AlwaysLatte · 10/12/2020 06:55

A full tank of diesel used to cost over £100 around once a week. But after going electric and installing a Pod Point at home it's about £7.50 for a full charge (lasts around 3 days).

MotherExtraordinaire · 10/12/2020 07:03

Corsa. £45-50 & get about 400 miles.

Obviously this is based on current petrol prices and there have been huge fluctuations and obviously chain petrol stations are much more expensive than supermarkets.

Presumably though a much bigger cost for the car to start with?
xyzandabc · 10/12/2020 07:06

VW 7 seater. Petrol. About £65, does 550 miles between fills.

TableCat · 10/12/2020 07:08

Mine takes £55 from empty but is a hybrid so the way I drive and the journeys I use it for means I get 70mpg most of the time. So I seem to rarely fill it up.
