How much Branston Pickle is too much Branston Pickle?

The Christmas advert where the mum sends the daughter it for her Christmas present? Does anyone think she puts far too much on it? Literally two tablespoons on her sandwich its not right, is it? I love abit of Branston but its very strong I think a teaspoon full is the norm isnt it? God knows where that poor lass has moved to that she cant buy her own pickle.

A tiny threat of pickle evenly placed is the right amount

RaininSummer · 09/12/2020 21:15

Yuksville. Any pickle is too much pickle . I actually like the pickle sauce taste but can't stand the lumps.

ApolloandDaphne · 09/12/2020 21:54

My late DF hated Branson pickle. He said it was like the devils breath!

magicstar1 · 09/12/2020 22:00

Smooth is great. I used to put the knife into the pickle and just wipe the sauce on my toasted ham...a jar would last for months. I was the only one who used it so didn’t care about double dipping or germs.

WorriedNotWorried · 09/12/2020 22:07

I hate the crunchy bits but love the taste. Smooth is the future! So easy to spread.

I had a late night cheese and pickle sandwich the other day. Woke up with burning acid indigestion. That (dessert spoon roughly) was definitely too much.

Lindy2 · 09/12/2020 22:11

Well seeing as I'll quite happily eat a spoonful (or two) straight out of the jar I'd have to say you can never actually have too much in a sandwich.

It has to be the proper crunchy stuff with chunks though. The crunchiness is an important part of it. The smooth stuff just won't do.

CoronaIsWatching · 09/12/2020 22:13

I normally have a tablespoon of it, can't have too much though as I find it very salty

rockinaftermidnite · 09/12/2020 22:15

Yum!

dazzlinghaze · 09/12/2020 22:16

When I was a child I used to love it on its own in a sandwich Envy

AlwaysLatte · 09/12/2020 22:18

Even worse is home made pickle esp chutney. Vile stuff.
Ooh no, I love it!
BP is very sweet, not sure about 2 tablespoons! I would use about a teaspoon of the vile home made stuff😀

AlwaysLatte · 09/12/2020 22:23

While we're on the subject, what do you use for your Ploughmans? Fancy that this week. I always think mine never looks as good or as inventive as those in good pubs! I use (depending on stocks) good crunchy cheddar, oatmeal biscuits, pickled onions, olives, crusty bread, apple slices, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, sometimes pork pie (my local butcher does an amazing one) - any other suggestions?

thebabessavedme · 09/12/2020 22:23

even a little bit of branston pickle gives me a sweaty nose, as does very dark chocolate Blush

AlwaysLatte · 09/12/2020 22:26

Sweaty nose! That's a new one!
Wasabi peas make my nose itch and my eyes water simultaneously!

I asked my daughter to make me a cheese and pickle sandwich. She went to an American school, so I ended up with cheese and gherkins. She won’t make that mistake again in a hurry.

My cupboard is full of pickles i always fancy them on the shelves but have the tiniest amount on my sandwiches its a waste of money reslly.

I like Branston pickle. I REALLY like Branston Pickle! The sort with chunky bits in it.
So I checked my cupboard before firing off my Morries Home Delivery last week and ordered another jar.
Didn't expect to receive a 720g. jar of it thoShock
Can't even hold a Christmas Pickle Party eitherConfused
Any suggestions?Grin

One of my earliest memories is of me sitting in a high chair whilst being fed the little onions that you used to get in Branston pickle by my grandmother. Until then I'd disliked/refused to eat pickle (I was probably around 3 or 4), but she picked out every little onion for me and told me they were special - and after that I liked it and always looked for the onions. This was in the early 60s. In recent years I've not been able to find any (onions) - are they still in there? Love the stuff, and there is no such thing as 'too much' of it!

Katinski · 10/12/2020 13:38

Oh! I remember the little onions! They've really messed about with the recipe haven't they?
It's labelled as 'original'. As Jim Royle would say, "original my arse"
