Regular headache and sickness DD age 10

DD aged 10 over the last 2 years seems to get regular incidents where she will often (not always) complain of a headache, become very pale suddenly, and be sick once or possibly twice- after which she is fine but washed out and tired. I would say migraine but she doesn’t always say she has a headache. She loves school so I don’t think anything is going on emotionally . I’m concerned that she’s missing days here and there over the school year & if there was an obvious over the counter medication she could take that would sort it and I didn’t know! Could they be migraines? Any suggestions?

Migraine without headache is perfectly possible, especially in children - look up 'abdominal migraine' for more info. I have chronic migraine (confirmed by a neurologist) and often don't get the classic headache. Have a chat with her GP.

Does she feel faint when this happens?

You can absolutely have migraine without an headache.

Haven't you taken her to the GP? I think you should definitely book her in if this has been happening for two years!

I'd say definitely take her to the GP. I first started with migraines when I was 13, and have had various medication over the year, both preventative and responsive. Mine go through cycles which can be better/worse for a few months/years at a time. One of the 1st things your gp will probably ask is to keep a diary to try to identify possible triggers, I now use an app to track mine called migraine buddy to record everything in one place. If your at a big GP practice ask if any of the GPS special interest is headache or migraine as when I saw one who was interested in that area I found he had much more understanding and was much more helpful in terms of things to try.

Thanks all that’s very helpful.
@Miarara I can actually think of 2 possible triggers actually- having some of my coffee and a big cake in Costa & on another occasion a party held in Lush! I’m not a migraine sufferer so thought they always came with the headache .
