The central heating is making us ill

Does anyone else have this problem?

Are we doing something wrong?

We tend to have the heating on only for a few hours per evening but after it's been on for an hour or so we're all complaining of sore throat and our skin is red and dry.

We set it to 18°.

We basically have to suffer like this or be cold and wear blankets around the house.

For context this happens every winter but this year it's annoying me more!
I hate being cold and I hate feeling uncomfortable with the heating on.

We have this. Central heating makes me feel awful

It always has. It’s the stuffiness. Which means the dust comes up. Or I feel it does. Probably completely bloody illogical. Makes my eyes itch

I find that flinging open the windows once a day helps massively!

What form of heating do you have? If it’s radiators I can’t be of much help but if it’s forced air with ducts, some of us have serious problems with that kind of heating as mould builds up in the ducts. It’s quite axiom in thing in the US but not so much here.

Quite a common thing not axiom thing— darn spell check!

Pop to Screwfix or similar and get a thermometer that also gives you humidity reading. They are really cheap. Find out how humid your house is. The ideal for human skin comfort is a relative humidity of 40-60% if your house is outside of this or close this will be the problem and you will know which it is and what to do.

18 is bloody freezing. Mines set to 21

Putting a bowl of water under each radiator helps to purify the air
