What nibbles are in your Xmas break shopping list?

I'm making a list of snacks and nibbles to have in the house over the Christmas period so we don't have to go food shopping if we can avoid it. I have bought some mini brownies, millionaire shortbread, twiglets, blinis to have with cream cheese and smoked salmon, some nuts and some crisps. And we have a couple of packs of mince pies and shortbread biscuits. Is there anything you would add to the list? It will be me and my OH, his brother and his teenage son, and his parents (on different days, rules permitting). We will be playing board games so we'd also like something to put in bowls in the middle of the table while we play. Any suggestions?

Aldi salted caramel mixed nuts, and chocolate covered nut and sour cherry mix.

Dates stuffed with marzipan, nuts

Lebkuchen

Large roasted gammon joint for sandwiches/quick meals.

@Timeforabiscuit gammon smoked or unsmoked? We get a gammon every year, but ut never seems to be quite right & soaked or not seems too salty to give to the kids. Or it’s dry. Or just not very nice (the brown sugar year).
Tesco best salted caramel nuts are my offering.
Cheeee.
Biscuits for cheese. Twisty pastry crisp bread things.

Tesco are doing chocolate orange pretzels which look delicious. Also the ‘Christmas’flavoured crisps from M&S.

Crisps, dips and nuts are must-haves in this house

MummyInTheNecropolis · 08/12/2020 18:38

Oh you already said crisps and nuts, sorry! Ignore me 🙈

Lots of good cheese and biscuits, stuffed dates, Camembert that you can bake as a dip, crudités nearer the time.

To be honest, I don’t want to gain weight over Xmas for once so I’m not going to stock up snacks!

But M&S and Waitrose have amazing Christmas party food (don’t worry, it’s not just Xmas tradition dishes). Definitely check it out.

So many great ideas! I shall be updating my list tonight. Thank you

Pickled walnuts!

Timeforabiscuit · 09/12/2020 16:47

@Coldhandscoldheart - I get unsmoked, then slow cook in full sugar coca cola or Dr pepper (original brand does make a difference).

I have studded with cloves and roasted with orange juice in the oven - but it's on the salty side then.

Timeforabiscuit · 09/12/2020 16:50

If you have a slow cooker - put the joint in and pour the soft drink over until completely covered (mine is massive so usually need 3.5 ltrs of coke), then cook on high for however long the weight tells you.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 09/12/2020 16:54

Cheese straws and sausage rolls. Consider making your own roasted nuts, they are amazing.

I always find gammon too salty. Is there a type that's not as salty anywhere?

I boil it in a pan of water (that covers the whole joint) for 5 mins then drain the water and then cook for the full time in coke or similar - at the end I remove the hard rind and glaze the fat and bake for 15 mins. Not salty at all - I use unsmoked.
