Just wondering... is this an extra holiday day for teachers?

Oh no, have I fallen into the trap of replying to a teacher bashing thread Sad I’ve reported three of these this week (they’ve all been deleted so must’ve been justified). I genuinely though the OP was asking and I was helping by explaining.

iloveredwine · 08/12/2020 19:05

My children are both in on the 18th

BikeRunSki · 08/12/2020 19:05

@DebbieFiderer

Haven't heard anything about the 18th, but just piping up to say some NHS staff have been given an extra day off - my Trust have given everyone a 'wellbeing day' - an extra day off to be used before the end of March. So it doesn't necessarily need the government to decide these things, employers could make that decision for themselves (granted that's not the case for teachers, but for people saying key workers generally should be given one - lobby your employer for it)
That’s really lovely of your trust. I hope you have a brilliant day.

My dc are in until 23rd. And no extra days holiday for nhs here, we'll struggle to take all holidays as it is! (I've got 2 weeks to take between Jan and march)

Hercwasonaroll · 08/12/2020 19:07

Wondering when everyone in the nhs, supermarkets, bin collectors etc etc would get theirs, that's all.

They're all free to rearrange a days holiday when they like. (not that it's even a day of holiday for teaching staff).

This isn't an extra day off. It's taken from the INSET already allocated for the year.

zigaziga · 08/12/2020 19:08

We finish this week! Quite glad really as minimises the risk of having to isolate because of a burst bubble over Christmas for both teachers and children.

Knew that was coming. Am sure they all get staff training as well not heard anything about it being cancelled for them this year.

daisybrown37 · 08/12/2020 19:24

No extra day - just moving an inset day.

Only problem is my school don’t have any we can move from 2021. We have one this Friday, but bit short notice to move it, as the day is planned.

So I guess we will be open as planned and we will keep doing track and trace the following week. Fortunately for our teachers, the Business Manager and I do the track and trace. They will still be needing to check emails to check if they were exposed.

So even after it has been explained to you, you still decide to have a go.

Well done you.

justgeton · 08/12/2020 19:48

You might notice I asked if it was extra.. and then said I felt if it was it was deserved.

So your problem is? Teachers are no more deserving than so many others.

I don’t think staff training is something teachers should be ‘deserving of’; it’s an entitlement and necessary to do the job properly. There are 5 inset days each year no matter what

Whether that day of training happens next Friday or on the pre-planned day it would have occurred in 2021, it’s irrelevant. The day of training will take place for staff on a day the head chooses, and the children will get that chosen day off.

What has this got to do with being ‘deserving’ of anything? What has it got to do with bin collectors?

sticksticks · 08/12/2020 20:04

My DCs are in school, so are my friend's DCs (different school obv.)

sticksticks · 08/12/2020 20:05

Which means that teachers won't be involved in track and trace work on Christmas Day.

My DC's head teacher has explained that she will stil be doing track and trace through the xmas holidays, they are in until 3.30pm on Xmas Eve.

sticksticks · 08/12/2020 20:06

^Xmas Eve! I mean the 18th...but she will be doing it until the 24th.

nancy75 · 08/12/2020 20:08

For Christ sake, even if they do get it as an extra day off - who cares? It’s one day, the nation is hardly going to fall to its knees if teachers get 1 extra day off.
My daughter’s school sent home 60 kids to isolate yesterday, along with the whole of years 7 to 10 due to isolating & teachers being off. The sooner this term finishes the better in my opinion.

BikeRunSki · 08/12/2020 20:12

We have received an email saying that the school will be involved in Track n Trace until 24 Dec, 6 days after the end of term, and to contact them if our children develop any symptoms. Allocated members of the SLT will be checking emails and phone messages daily, and responding accordingly.

starrynight19 · 08/12/2020 20:14

Teachers ‘deserve’ an inset day Grin I’ve heard it all now.

NerrSnerr · 08/12/2020 20:14

It's not a day off for the teachers though. It's an inset day, so another day at work just without pupils there.

I work for the NHS and quite a few NHS trusts have given their staff an extra day annual leave mine haven't the tight buggers.

Oooh what an intriguing post!

I have three children at three different schools. They are all at school on the 18th. I teach at another - and am also at school.

One child - shock horror - has an inset day on the 4th, I think it is. Inset days are not holidays, they are training/ working/ sorting out days.

But good try at baiting, OP, I’m giving you full marks for effort.😁

Thanks, but I wasn't actually baiting... I was just asking 😂

I'm really not. I don't actually give a toss whether they have the rest of the year off

Blimey. Sick over reactions 🙄

So you think that teachers are deserving of a re-arranged year (not an extra day off as it is being put forward) and that they should also be the ones to take the blame as the DfE doesn't have the balls to own the mess that has been created.

Personally I would rather have PPE, Social distancing, extra money to support pupils with proper blended learning than some half assed bullshit that the papers and and the thick as fuck will blame those "lazy teachers" for.

Maybe that explains what my "problem" is.
