Just found out my breast implants were recalled months ago

Came across an article online about how some implants had been mass recalled and destroyed due to being linked to hundreds of cancer cases. I checked my old paperwork thinking there was no way and it's the exact ones. The exact recall appears to be March this year but multiple articles talking about them dating back a couple of years. MYA have never contacted me to discuss this. Has anyone had this? What did you do? I let my insecurities get the better of me when I was 19 and I have regretted it ever since. After having my kids, breastfeeding, growing up I have always thought what a waste they were and to think they could now be putting me at risk just makes me cry.

It seems strange that they haven't contacted you. Could you contact your doctor/hospital/clinic to find out?
Try not to worry!

I had mine at MYA. What brand do you have? What's been recalled? I assumed a recall would be followed up by the clinic. Confused OMG this is so worrying.

Which implants were they?

ScalpHelp · 08/12/2020 01:35

No mention of this on their website either. This link mentions ALCL and says to either contact your consultant or your GP

ScalpHelp · 08/12/2020 01:37

However it doesn’t outright mention the recall or state that removal is necessary if it’s not causing lumps etc

ScalpHelp · 08/12/2020 01:39

If diagnosed early, BIA-ALCL can be successfully treated, usually with surgery alone, and there is no indication for any routine action in the form of explantation or regular imaging. But the increase in risk is small and ALCL in this area is not as serious as it is when it happens elsewhere in your body.

Right so it seems like they’re not offering routine explantation? Sorry for all the posts

Hi just saw your post. Hope you are feeling ok about this now. I am in the same boat. I had my original implants (in my 30's after years of insecurity about my totally flat chest -totally- and when first husband had left me ). After 16 yrs they were rippling and showing signs of possible rupture so had them replaced in 2015 thinking I was swapping to a very safe option. My highly respected surgeon failed to mention Bia Alcl in the 'informed consent' paperwork so shortly after the op when I googled about my new implants I was mortified. Many sleepness nights have ensued and several costly trips to other surgeons and experts who underplay the risks of this potentially lethal condition. As I have Allergan Biocell they are the riskiest type. I swing between being desperate to get them out (which apparantly may not even negate the risks) and utterly dreading the empty saggy bags of skin that will result unless I re implant. Even at my age this thought fills me with dread even though I also dread getting the condition. Such a horrible place to be though grateful thus far regular Mri's and checks have been ok and I am symptom free. I am so torn, disgusted at the system that allowed this to happen to women. Especially those that were undergoing reconstruction after trauma already. It's a disgrace. Interested to hear from you or anyone else facing this.
