Did anyone’s heating actually click off today?

It didn’t get above freezing today

I had the heating on from 7am and it didn’t reach its temperature (20) all day so didn’t ever click off

Will this be eye wateringly expensive?

Do you have insulation problems (or a door open!!) if your central heating isn’t warming your home?

It’s been cold here too (2-3 degrees) with thermostat on 20 too and ive been sweltering indoors!!!

Funkypolar · 07/12/2020 21:08

We have a big house and it didn’t seem to get properly warm today and I had the thermostat set at 22c! It was really cold outside, highs of 3C.

Youngatheart00 · 07/12/2020 21:16

And in terms of expense - really it depends on how big your house is, your boiler and energy tariff! On days I’ve had the heating on ‘full blast’ it cost around £2.50 per day (albeit this includes gas for hot water and cooking too)

Onedropbeat · 07/12/2020 23:27

It’s a new boiler, old house but small house

Has new double glazing though.
However it is without a cavity so no really insulation on the walls as such.

I've had the heating on for hours today
I'm really really worried about the cost
I've never had the heating on as much as I have this year. I don't seem to be able to cope with cold this year. So worried

PickAChew · 07/12/2020 23:33

We have our set to 18 during the day but had to turn it up so that it kicked in because there was a distinct chill. How comfortable the house is depends on the wind direction and whether we have sun.

Pipandmum · 07/12/2020 23:58

I have a s large Victorian and the heat was on all day. I grew up in New England and you don't turn the heat off there; I'm not worried, cheaper than buying a takeaway coffee, and it's doing something (keeping you warm).

Our house has rubbish wall insulation, it is timber framed and built in the 90s and the builders put very limited insulation in. The heating barely clicks off when the house is heated to 20. However we recently built an extension with good insulation and underfloor heating and the difference is incredible. We now mainly live in the extension and keep the existing house at 18 degrees and our bills have come down lots.

We have very good loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and triple glazed windows. Heating was on for six hours yesterday and cost just shy of £7. Electricity prices are a huge worry to me.

Youngatheart00 · 08/12/2020 09:39

@PaperMonster you have electric heating?

PaperMonster · 08/12/2020 18:03

@Youngatheart00 yes, all electric here.

TurquoiseDragon · 08/12/2020 18:35

My heating isn't great either. Am currently in a rental that's draughty and not a lot I can do apart from things like draught excluders, etc.

However, the DC have just inherited a house that they plan to sell and buy a new one without memories for us all to live in. We'll get something more energy efficient, and I've been looking into electric radiators for better control.
