Healthy habits thread?

Would anyone be interested in joining in a healthy habits thread?

I'm making a start by giving up alcohol entirely. I'm doing it as a sort of experiment and I have another thread about it. I am 4 days in (very early days) to a 6 month minimum stretch!

But, generally, I need to take better care of my health. Covid has made me a lot more aware of that fact! I haven't had it, but if I do catch it, I want to be in good shape.

I didn't want to post this in weight loss, as that really isn't my focus, although, if I lost a few lbs, I don't think that would be a bad thing!

My plan is to take things one step at a time. Exercise is my next new healthy habit to crack! I love yoga and can tolerate jogging, so I will give those a go.

I’ve made some healthy changes.
I had a baby 9 months ago and following a diagnosis of PND created some unhealthy habits and with food.

So the first healthy change I’ve made is I’ve switched changed my mid afternoon snack.
When DS has his afternoon nap I was finding myself having a cup of tea and several hob nobs or chocolate digestives. Confused

I’ve switched this to water and add frozen lemon (really refreshing)
I have some plain yogurt and usually with some fruit.

I’ve also started a baby wearing exercise class via zoom.
Sometimes difficult as I have RA, but I’m able to adapt the exercises to suit my ability.

Ive also switched to skimmed milk, I’m new to that so will see how i get along. So far it’s like drinking water I’m comparison to the semi skimmed. 🙈

They all sound like good changes! I need to look at my snack intake and choose something other than sweet stuff Xmas Blush.

After I had dc1, I think I lived for a time off entirely sweet stuff Xmas Blush. In hindsight, something wasn't quite right...I felt as if I couldn't leave her, even to get food. We lived in a flat at the time, so it wasn't as if I was going far to get to the kitchen! Someone had bought us a big box of naice chocolates and I used to eat them instead of meals.

Anyway, this time, my unhealthy habits seem to have come about due to lockdown and one or all of us having to isolate at one point or another.

It's a really difficult time to be a parent of young children. I know it's hard for everyone, but things like not being able to go out for a walk, because you've got a child at home who is isolating means it is even trickier to get exercise. More so for you, with RA.

oh go on then. I get on the scales in the morning and commit to doing better, but then I'm scoffing chocolate fingers by 10am.
I will go back to keeping a food diary. In the past I have found that if I go to my plan when I feel like eating and spend a bit of time working out what a good option might be, I am a lot more in control. I might still eat a few unhealthy things, but it's 'as part of a healthy balenced diet' whereas at the moment, it isn't.

Welcome @gospelsinger! Food journalling really appeals to me too. I think I might give that a go and then I can't lie to myself about how unhealthy my choices are Xmas Blush.

Count me in! My plan is no alcohol, drink lots of water, stop eating crap like crisps/take aways etc and keep my steps at 10k or over

VanityWitch · 07/12/2020 18:12

Welcome @Thesmellofolfbooks!

Dcs are having dinner now and DH and I will have something else later. Normally I eat off their plates all the time, so today I've made myself a plate of cut up carrots to tide me over. Feeling rather smug and Halo about that!

Morning everyone!

I'm on day 6 alcohol free. Planning some sort of exercise today, but depends on dcs. One is home learning here today as she is isolating (last day today wooooohoooo!), but I might leave her with DH and take the other one out for a walk. Think it's safe enough on last day of his sister isolating (none of the rest of us has been told to isolate obviously).

How is everyone else?

Not really started writing anything down, but the thought of doing so has helped.

FestiveFannyGallops · 08/12/2020 23:13

I'm in! Thanks for this thread.
My healthier habits include not eating after 6pm (otherwise I inhale chocolate) and extending the school run after dropping off da to up my step count. This was the shortest way to school but the longest way back, plus the shortest there and back in the afternoon. It's hilly where we are. Walking really helps my mental health and I'll miss the school run over Christmas.
I don't usually drink alcohol but will over Christmas. Not much though. I'm vegetarian but need to increase my veg intake so I'm planning some new soup recipes for winter. I love soup.
I'm also trying to have better sleep habits so shouldn't be on here now Blush
