MNHQ here: do you have thoughts about how divided we are (or aren't) as a nation? Tell the Together Coalition what you think

Hello

We've been approached by the /Together Coalition to ask MNers if you'd be up for filling in their survey about 'what divides us, what unites us and what will bring us close together'.

Here's what they have to say:

"Should we worry about how socially divided we are?"

"Do you worry about how divided our society is becoming, or how divided it could become? Do you think the Covid crisis has brought us closer together as a society, or pushed us further apart?"

"Previous research has found 62% of people in the UK believe that “As a society, we have lost the ability to discuss politics without getting angry and abusive.” Do you agree?"

"The /Together coalition is asking for people’s views on these big questions."

"/Together is a coalition of organisations – from household names like the NHS and the Scouts to local community organisations – which is aiming to bring people together and bridge divides, to help build a kinder, closer and more connected society."

"Talk/together is the UK’s biggest-ever conversation about what divides us, what unites us and what will bring us closer together. You can take the Talk/together survey here."

"Let us know your views on this and the work of the /Together campaign."

Do take the survey if you fancy it - and as ever, we'd be interested to know what you think!

Thanks
MNHQ

To quote Kiera Bell
reduce the homophobia and misogyny
ANYTHING
that denies biology is both homophobic and misogynistic
MNHQ should not accept adverts that deny chromosomes

Not stomaching anything from Eliot and his brexit ghouls, a movement that is predicated on divide and sowing division.
Eliot is as likely to be 'independent of party politics' as long as division is sown.
It's FAR more likely he wants to see a measure of how divided the country is in order to decide if a bit more division is needed.

These people are proven liars (in court) and should not be trusted with anything.

I found the repeated focus on volunteering interesting. In the context of that survey it could appear that they were trying to lead people towards selecting the option that said people should have to volunteer a certain number of hours.

I found that interesting too especially when coupled with a lack of questions about what else you do. I do loads of volunteering but I'm a sahm/part time student. When I return to full time study/work my volunteering will decrease considerably.

^ That's a good point when so many jobs that used to be paid have moved into the voluntary sector.

If you truly want to 'bring us together' then share the wealth that we create. Look after the people who create the wealth through their daily work and return it to them, investing in their present and future through infrastructure and services. Return to Harold Wilson's vision of us all working less and sharing the fruits of our labour. Undo the growth in inequality of the last 40 years. Learn the lessons of history, of social collapse after social collapse when hierarchies grow too big and the elite suck too much out of the systems. Stop trying to recreate a serf class, and a class-based hereditary Victorian system which was dismantled for good reason.
