I think they've missed a break... does it matter?

I have a hairline fracture in my ankle, for which I'm just coming to the end of 4 weeks in a boot. The fracture is on the bony outside bit. I keep getting sharp pains about 2 inches above the ankle also on the outside. It is a little swollen directly over the pain and I suspect there is a hairline fracture there too.

As it is obviously only a small fracture as walking etc is possible, do you think I could safely leave it to heal alongside the ankle healing? I didn't notice it at the time I had it xrayed as the pain in my ankle distracted from it.

I'm just trying to avoid going back really as I'd rather be anywhere than our local hospital right now. (Covid and immunosupressed).

Does anyone have any relevant knowledge/experience? Thanks.

Did they X-ray it?

A minor injuries unit might be able to help and the risk of covid would be much lower there.

I badly sprained my ankle once, they wouldn’t X-ray it. 6 weeks later it still really hurt to put weight on it. It was a physio who sorted me out. One of the bones had moved Confused she manipulated it back and was right as rain after.

I don’t know if a physio would touch it though if a break was suspected.

Either way I wouldn’t leave it get someone to look at it as you don’t know what the knock on effect could be long term.

They xrayed the ankle, but not high enough to cover where I think the extra little break is.

I know you're probably right, but the other bit of me is thinking 'well, it's been 4 weeks, it must be on the way to healing by now.' The fracture clinic have said they'll make me an appt after 6 weeks if i want one, so after Christmas, but there are so many covid patients there I'm feeling edgy about it, and I'm not 'overly' cautious about covid.

Minor injuries won't see me... it's where I went where I did it and they were brill. But now between passed on to fracture clinic, so it's for them to sort.

I'll probably have to suck it up and go I think. Thank you.

Atleast the fracture clinic will be in a very different part of the hospital to any covid patients. Smile

My concern would be it would heal, but not right and would continue to be painful.

@pinkplantcase true. :)

@Di11y yes. You are right of course, but I was hoping in my dreamland that loads of people would say they had similar and it was fine. I know, stupid.

MY local health board have just put out a warning saying that unless people wise-up they will be overwhelmed in January and local services won't cope - this doesn't inspire confidence, but I suspect I will have to bite the bullet and go - better than having to have it broken and re-set or some such nonsense, and I don't need any extra pain on top of my lupus so I guess you are both right.

Thanks both for taking the time to reply.
