Have you ever dropped something in shock.

So I just was just watching an old Doctor Who episode and in one of the scenes Clara drops her phone in shock when she realizes something.

It just got me thinking how realistic is the dramatic drop scenario? I know it's used quite commonly in movies and tv shows. But to me it just seems a bit over dramatic and unrealistic. I've never personally had it happen and I'm 38 now. Any time I get a shock I tense up which tightens my grip not loosens it. Perhaps that's just me though.

I was just wondering if any of you have ever been in a situation where you've been so shocked or panicked by something you drop what you're holding.

I drop anything I'm holding when I have flashbacks. That's fear more than shock though.

It's not so much that I "forget" what I'm holding or lose my grip or whatever, it's more like my brain needs my hands to be free to protect myself and sort of reflexively releases anything I was holding.

I think this about people in films screaming, it strikes me that it just doesn't make sense with the fight/flight response, a massive waste of energy.

I've never dropped anything in shock.

I tense up too, the only time I ever dropped something quickly after a shock was when I broke the glass I was holding, not a scratch!

Same as user1274245 for me, both hands fly open as if I'd grabbed spiders and I do a sharp intake of breath.

TV remote control when I accidentally turned on the middle of Naked Attraction.

Depends on the shock. If I read something shocking no, but when I've been shocked in the sense it made me jump then yes I've dropped things.

Our cellar has the perfect layout for jumping out on people, many a drink have I dropped there with DC 'surprising' me.
