Does anyone else hate walking?

I bloody detest it. I can walk around city centre with things to look at or walk to somewhere but I hate just going somewhere. I know that it's good for you but I still don't enjoy it. People say that it makes them feel better afterwards but that isn't true for me. I'm just glad that it's over.

It doesn't help that I have disabilities. My balance can be poor, and getting out in near impossible when icy,and I trip a lot. Also my ankle just suddenly "goes" which is painful, my knee locks and I have nerve damage so my leg can randomly go numb. But even before some of those occurred(Other disability is life long) I never enjoyed it.

Does anyone else feel this way?

I walk quite long distances around town, I cant be bothered to get the car out often. But I need to be doing errands en route. I'm easily bored. I even do errands when I'm out running.

I don't blame you for not enjoying it if you have disabilities.

It's just so boring. And pointless. And boring. The fact that I take no joy in it ( I do walk a lot because I don't drive but that's with a purpose) but people think I should anyways because reasons makes it even more pointless and annoying.

And did I mention it's boring?

Witchend · 06/12/2020 16:19

Me too!
I dislike walking for the sake of walking. It makes me feel tired, but not exercised, and achy with no sense of achievement.

@GazOnABender

Completely! Walk around shops ✅ Walk around stately homes ✅ Walk for the sake of it 🥱

I used to adore walking and did lots of it. "Proper" walking if you see what I mean. I can't now. Like you, I am disabled. Very bad arthritis and other joint issues, unstable and I dread ice and snow. But I would give anything to be able to walk again, and those who can but don't really don't appreciate what a gift they have got.

Changedforaquickquestion · 06/12/2020 16:26

I used to be you, but the first lockdown boredom, closed gyms, an Apple watch to monitor distance and steps and the realisation that there are always nice coffee/ cake stops have resulted in a new love of waking for me Smile

I love walking. I go most days. Quick 3-4 miles midweek, yesterday i walked 8 miles, ran 4 this morning and then walked 5 thus afternoon.

I never let the weather dictate my walks neither

Tootsietootie · 06/12/2020 16:52

I love it! At least two hours a day more in the summer when I can walk in the light evening

CapGunAmmo · 07/12/2020 05:45

floralnomad. I love driving through lovely scenery. My idea of seeing somewhere scenic would be on a train, lööking out the window going Wow that’s beautiful as the vista unfolds before me. In fact I was looking at Glacier Express holidays last night and thinking that is going on my must do list.

flowerpotsandrain · 07/12/2020 05:54

I don't understand how people can waste so much time walking for the sake of it on a daily basis? Do you live in the country side, as surely no one is just walking around suburbia for hours on end without reason? Is this a form of covid insanity Hmm

Bellbell1199 · 07/12/2020 05:58

Haha yes!
My OH will often just go for a walk for the sake Of going for a walk.
I've never understood it.
You walk to get somewhere not just for a walk 🤣

user1493413286 · 07/12/2020 06:07

My family love just going for a walk for the sake of it and me and DH have a joke about how much we hate it. Its now a lifeline for me to be able to meet people for a walk as otherwise I wouldn’t see anyone most of the week but it hasn’t made me like the actual idea of a walk in itself.

Oblomov20 · 07/12/2020 06:22

The only walks I like are to the pub. Or in covid, with a friend (when that's allowed) to have a good natter.

There are lots of things in life that you are supposed to like, but just don't.

I don't like exercise: gyms, Pilates, nothing. Spinning class? Nope. I don't get any endorphins, I don't feel better afterwards, I just don't like exercise.

vanillandhoney · 07/12/2020 07:03

I'm a dog walker so I'd be buggered if I hated walking Grin

But that being said I never go walking without a dog. On busy days I can cover 13km no problem, but I'd never do that if I didn't have dogs to walk!
